Hi All, I’m finding conflicting advice online I am going out for Sunday lunch today and the Yorkshire pudding is filled with oxtail - I was just wondering if oxtail is safe to eat during pregnancy? Thanks

It will have been cooked for a long time, so fine.

I couldn't work out why it wouldn't be, since it's generally cooked as a long slow braise.

When I googled, as I'm assuming you did, there were some bits and pieces that came up about toxoplasmosis, but if you actually look at the links it's not at all clear cut, is not implicating oxtail specifically, and in any case is about inadequate food hygiene practices.

If you're going to a reputable restaurant then it will be fine. If the restaurant has poor hygiene then I'd not be eating there at all quite frankly.

However, if you have severe anxiety around food in pregnancy and this is going to niggle at you then one Sunday lunch isn't worth it, even if your fear is completely unfounded.

Thank you! I will relax and enjoy my Sunday lunch!
