Hi all,

Please bear with me as I'm quite anxious even writing about this. I decided to come off the pill last month as I had been on it for so long and was quite fed up. I took my last pill 18th June. I had my withdrawal bleed 21st - 26th June as normal. About a week later I had one day of spotting (but this isn't that uncommon for me as I've had an ectropion diagnosed in the past). During this time I was away on holiday not with my partner so no sex at all took place. I came home and have had sex with partner 3 times since then, all protected with a condom which he ties up at the end and there was no breakages etc.

All last week I was expecting my period to come but it never did. My boobs felt sore, just felt like it was due. Since then my boobs have stopped being sore and it's as if my period is over but I didn't have one.

On 14th July I experienced the more stringy typical 'ovulation' mucus so was then expecting period to come yesterday (14 days later). Today I decided to take a pregnancy test just to be sure. First one I took was clear blue blue dye one and it came back with a very very faint line. I then took the other one in the pack which came back negative, a Tesco one which has come back negative and a clear blue digital test which says not pregnant.

Could I have just taken the first test wrong/could it have been faulty? I know it's rare but I did read afterwards not to tip it upside down and I don't know if I did that on the first one in my panicked state.

I really could do without being pregnant right now and I feel we've been so careful. Anyone experienced similar?

For reference, these are the tests (pic taken before I took Tesco one but that was obviously negative and red dye.)

Clearblue are notorious for lines when they are negative. Get a decent pink dye test to know for sure like a boots own early results test. Coming off birth control can mess up your cycles for a while so I’d try not to worry too much at the moment as it’s likely to be caused by that.

Thank you for your message PickledScrump - I have tested just this morning with first pee and negative on both a Tesco pink dye and clearblue digital. It's been 2 weeks today since the protected sex that I think could have been around ovulation time so I think I'd be expecting positives now. 16 days since I experienced ovulation type discharge. I think I'll just wait for my cycle to sort itself out and maybe retest in a week or so if still nothing.

Honestly, if youve just come off the pill, your cycle might be very out of whack.

Were you regular before going on the pill? If not, it is unlikely you will be now.
If yes, then it is still not completely uncommon for it to take a little bit to adjust to the new reality.

It can take up to 60 days for your period to come, after coming off the pill. If it takes longer, it is advised to see a doctor!

I am thinking that this is likely ASGIRC - my cycle was quite regular before I started the pill but I was only 17 back then so it's very likely things have changed.

I also took a 6 month ish break from the pill about 2 years ago and my periods were all over the place then too, varying from 35-50 day cycles. I think I'll just have to wait it out and see!
