Morning sickness

Hi there. I’m suffering with morning sickness but my doctor says he won’t prescribe anything unless I’m literally throwing up in front of him. Ok fair enough he’s the doctor but does anyone know why they’re so reluctant? Can the tablets harm the baby at all?

They prefer not to give anything if they can get away with it. How far along are you ?
How often are you vomiting ? What have you tried ?
My life saver was a can of freezing cold Diet Coke that I would sip all day. Every time I felt the sickness coming I’d have a sip, not a drink.

So sorry you’re not getting much help off your doctor. Can you speak to a different doctor perhaps? Don’t give up on getting help as hard as it is when you’re already feeling ill from pregnancy.I didn’t know anti sickness meds were available during first pregnancy but this pregnancy I’ve been willing to try something now I know better. Doctor has thankfully been helpful too.Still pretty rough with the meds but there are different ones available so may have to try and change when you do get some help with it.

Some can have very small risks to the baby if you take them early on but not the first line drugs they normally start people on.

If you take a look at the Pregnancy Sickness Support website they go through all the different meds and the risks of each.

Unfortunately in my experience it is common for GPs to be reluctant to prescribe much. You may have to try seeing a few different doctors.

You could pop into a chemist and ask them if there’s anything over the counter you can take. The anti sickness my GP prescribed said travel sickness on the box

You can get Promethazine over the counter.
