Chemical or Ectopic? Help please!

I am looking for any shared experiences, particularly chemical pregnancies who may have had a similar experience. I already know plenty of people with ectopics have but wondering if anyone has had a similar experience to mine and it wasn’t ectopic..

I took a test on the day of my missed period and it was faintly positive. Took one two days later and it was a slightly darker, but still light positive. That same day I started to bleed like a period. Clots included.

A day or two later I took another test and it was significantly darker. This was followed by mild intermittent left flank pain. I went to the ER they diagnosed me as a probably miscarriage. My HCG was only 48. I did a blood test three days later and will be doing another blood test tomorrow then meeting with my OB. I have had continued left flank pain with occasional stabbing throughout my entire stomach (not just one sided for stabs). I am worried sick about EP and have continued taking pregnancy tests. They have been positive but are starting to lighten up which is giving me hope that this is not actually ectopic. Thoughts?

I should add the bleeding lasted for about 4 days and has completely stopped. the only concerning symptoms I still have are left sided flank pain some poking/stabbing. I’m not sure if I am just super keen on how my body feels right now or if it is a true emergency.

How far along are you?

Are you booked for a scan (to check for ectopic?) or are you reliant on the blood tests?

Any systemic issues? Temp? Blood pressure etc?

Oops, I should’ve mentioned that. I would be 5 weeks and 4 days. My bleeding started at 4 weeks 3 days. Left flank pain at 4 weeks 6 days. When I was scanned at 5 weeks they did a trans abdominal scan that revealed normal blood flow to my ovaries and an empty uterus. They may scan me at my appointment tomorrow, but I think that is dependent on my bHCG levels.

I think I am going to request a transvaginal scan since I know TA are not as reliable. I may even seek out a second opinion. I wanted this pregnancy but at this point I would be relieved for a CP.

Have you got reason to suspect ectopic?

The primary reasons I suspect ectopic are the left sided pain, bleeding, lack of IUP and abnormally low hcg levels. I know I am not pregnant as this feels nothing like my first. I’ve never miscarried or had an ectopic so I don’t really have anything else to compare it to.

Try not to stress, I thought ectopic had higher hcg and increased? It’s been a while since I researched all this.
most importantly you’re aware it’s a risk, I doubt that’s what happening with you’re decreasing levels. I’m sorry you’re going through this but push for a scan if it makes you more settled.
when I had a miscarriage it was low hcg, left pain and spotting which turned into bleeding/clots.

@xoxotiredteacher no worries at all. But just know just because others have been through it doesn’t mean you can’t feel gutted.
my loss also lead to my wonderful daughter who I couldn’t imagine any other way

It's sound very similar to when I had an ectopic last year - especially the empty uterus. There was no sign anything has been in there like uterus lining thickness etc.
It took about 2 weeks of back and forth scanning before they finally saw an ectopic in my tube.
When I had a chemical there was no pain or cramps - I just had a positive test for 2 days then my period like normal.
