Thrush in pregnancy

I've almost 14 weeks and had some mixed feedback about wether canesten thrush combi is safe for pregnancy?
The chemist said just don't use the applicator and do it manually?
Has anyone else had any experience! Is it safe?

Yes it’s safe - I was prescribed it about a million times during pregnancy.

Yup, pharmacist refused to sell it to me without prescription... Dr prescribed combi for me, said to insert without applicator "just put it up as far as you can with your fingers" 🤣 but also recommended my dh took the pill so that if I had passed the infection to him he'd be clear (I've read that it's not contagious, but we followed the advice)

Literally nothing is getting rid of thrush for me this time, I'm looking forward to child birth just so my fanny has a new discomfort to concentrate on.

In pregnancy you often need a course of pessaries to get rid of thrush rather than just using it once

Midwife told me to take a fluconazole and not tell chemist I'm pregnant as they'd be a nightmare. I've took it twice now, both cleared up in a day.

If you mean the oral tablet then that's not supposed to be used in pregnancy. The pessaries and creams are ok but not the tablet

The advice must have changed recently as it used to say that the tablet shouldn't be used.

I had thrush recently and was given the pessary. Wasn't told not to use the applicator though! I used with and seemed fine.

@dementedpixie it changes all the time it's a minefield. It'll probably change back eventually.
Will have to check if we can breathe next 😂

I had thrush at 20 weeks and pharmacy wouldn’t sell me anything for it says it has to be prescribed. GP prescribed pessary and cream. No one mentioned anything about not using the applicator. I did use it but just didn’t push it right up high. Anyway thrush Again at 24 weeks and Gp prescribed pessaries for 7 days. Pregnancy is bloody hard going !

I’ve been PLAGUED with it this pregnancy. You can use the pessary (applicator is fine) and cream but not the oral tablet. Pharmacists don’t like selling the pessary to pregnant women so get it on prescription if you need it treated internally as well or you can just buy the external cream. I had a course of 7 nights a couple of weeks ago prescribed by the GP as one off pessaries weren’t touching it. Fingers cross it gets sorted for you x

I genuinely had thrush 8-10 times during my last pregnancy. Was variously prescribed the cream and the pessaries by both gp and consultant. I was never told not to use the applicator and it was fine.

^this You need to keep an eye on it. Get a course of pessaries if you get it a few times. Get it on repeat prescription too as it's pricey to get it again and again.
