After 2 MCs last year I had a 6 week scan today and they found a heartbeat is this good?

Made me 6+2, measuring for dates and there was a little heartbeat. What is the statistical likelhood of a MC now, don't want to get my hopes up or fret too much?

It is good that you've seen a heartbeat and lo is the right size for now. Your chances of miscarriage are lower having seen this. Would you be able to get another scan at 9/10 weeks just to keep your worries at bay until the more "conclusive" magic 12-week mark?

No idea on statistics, I spent a lot of time trawling the web after my first MC and for the first few months of my second pregnancy - lots of conflicting data out there. You will get through the next few weeks and I'm sending you my best wishes for a healthy baby.

I had a scan at the same stage following some bleeding, and at the time they said that having seen the heartbeat, that gave me a 98% chance of successful pregnancy (which I had).
I had no history, of mc, though, don't know if that had any relevance.

Oooh, Congrats, btw

if you've had no pains, no bleeding, and all looked well on the scan, then you can start relaxing

It's amazing isn't it, that they can see so much at such an early stage.

Yes definitely promising. I eard the same thing Betty said about the 98% chances of all going well after seeing heartbeat.

Fingers crossed!

I had a 6 week scan and saw a heartbeat (have also had 2 miscarriages) and the doctor told me that the chances of it all going well were 95%. However, I think the miscarriage association quotes 75%. Once you've seen a heartbeat, the chances of miscarriage reduce as every week passes. I agree you should ask for another scan at aroudn 9 weeks. I've got mine this week. Good luck - it seems to go really slowly, doesn't it!

I heard 5% risk of m/c once you've seen a heartbeat, so same as Aubergenie.

Congratulations .

Hi Milf
I have also had 2 mcs in a row. Am now 13 weeks preg. Had a scan at 6 wks and heartbeat seen - cue tears of relief and happiness!! Further scans at 9 and 12 weeks so all looks good! (More tears of relief and happiness!!)
Unfortunately, because of the past mc's every day seems slow and the magic 12 week mark will seem ages away.
Wishing you well! keep us posted!
Prof Lesley Regan in her book on miscarriages states that you still have a 70 per cent chance of having successful preg which may be even higher once heartbeat detected.

This is what the miscarriage association say:
If the scan picks up a heartbeat and the baby appears to be the right size according to your dates, this can be very reassuring. Research has shown that if you see a heartbeat at 6 weeks of pregnancy, the chances of the pregnancy continuing are 78%. A heartbeat at 8 weeks increases the chance of a continuing pregnancy to 98% and at 10 weeks to 99.4%. So things could still go wrong, but as long as there is a heartbeat, the risk of miscarriage decreases as the weeks go by.

I had a mc in August and bleeding in this pregnancy so i understand what a stressful time this is for you. A heartbeat at 6 weeks is great - i hope the next 6 go fast!

Congratulations on pregnancy !!!
Same boat - two mis last year at 16 weeks (embryo died at 11, the other one at 9.5 weeks). Then had early scan at 5.5 weeks and we saw heartbeat! You know what I mean....that moment.

Was told that once heartbeat is detected likelyhood of miscarrying is lower. Obviously, as you has previous m/cs the worry is always there... Sitting here and wish I coud make this easire for all women waiting after m/cs.

Even though I had infrequent bleeding from week 9 we now have regular scans ( great clininc!) and have been reassured that even after 2 m/cs and bit bleeding things can go on as they should. Incidentally, low lying placenta may cause bleeding in my case.

So, hopefully you can calm yourself, it will never be an 'innocent' pregnancy as the first would have been without loss. BUT! I hope you get to a happy end /beginning.

best wishes
