I am 30 weeks ish now and DS (nearly 2) seems to manage to kick/knee me in the stomach a couple of times a day, when i'm carrying him/cuddling him etc. It's not a deliberate attack on the new baby, and he tries to be careful but gets over excited!

Just need some reassurance this baby won't come out covered in dents?

Thanks

I'm really interested to get thoughts on this too, I'm 26 weeks at the moment and ds is 18 months. There doesn't seem any way to avoid getting the occasional knock or kick, at nappy change time or when playing or even cuddling, but I am vaguely worried about the effects of it, both on the baby and potentially on the placenta. How easy is it for a knock to cause a placental abruption? I'm guessing it can't be that dangerous as people have toddlers and babies all the time but would welcome expert thoughts. My dp is very worried aout it, he gets highly enervated about it and spends his time at home yelling 'Watch the bump! Mind the baby!' in panic whenever ds gets close to me, which doesn't do much for family harmony!!

my dd2 is 22 mths and uses my 36 week bump as a bouncy castle. obviously i try to stop her from jumping on it but i dont think it does much harm. there surrounded by a fair amount of fluid in there. this dd gets its own back on her by kicking her when she comes for a cuddle so there at the scrapping sibling stage already

oh me too, I've been stressing as well. Ds runs over with his arms held aloft and thwacks me on the bump. Obviously much more deliberate but he doesn't seem to have a clue about the baby so I think it's just the bump is the most obvious body part at the moment. Very worrying though but dh reassures me that people fall down stairs etc and their babies are fine so the occasional thwack will be fine.

Glad to hear it's not just my DS that does this! He thinks he has a baby too, and talks about Daddy's baby quite often...

I was thinking the same as you systemsaddict, that people have more than one child pretty often so it must be ok, but i thought maybe everyone was more careful than me!
