Hey guys,

I am 8 weeks pregnant today and woke up to bright red bleeding. I rang my local EPU and I went in. They performed a scan and baby looked fine. They said the doctor would perform a internal check but later changed their mind as they didn’t want to disturb anything. The blood has now changed to brown. Don’t know what to think and still not overly confident. Once baby was okay would you feel reassured? TIA

I had the same at 9 weeks (bleeding was significant, red and contained clots). I had a scan the following day at EPU who couldn't find the cause but said baby looked fine. The bleeding eventually tapered off to brown discharge and stopped completely after 6 days. I had a private scan today (now 10+5) and everything still looking as it should. I'd say if the EPU are happy with what they saw, you could be fine. Just be aware that if they can't find or explain the cause it may happen again but it doesn't necessarily mean much.

I had bleeding at 9 weeks and the scan couldn’t tell me what was the cause but baby absolutely fine. They said sometimes it comes away from the uterine wall slightly and causes a small bleed but no cause for concern. I’m now 26 weeks. My friend had 10 days of heavy bleeding and clots at 6 weeks and she’s due to have the baby any day now. It’s absolutely awful, but if they couldn’t see any cause I’d try to take reassurance from that
