Well where do I start..
at a 10 week scan (I went as I had symptoms of miscarriage) I have learnt that there is too much fluid behind my babies neck (NT) and abdomen. Approximately 3.6mm behind neck (3.5 is cut off) and 0.8mm around tummy (0 tolerance).

I was whisked off to a room after my scan where I was told that this could indicate a chromosome abnormality or a heart defect or some other type of problem. My world shattered. I feel completely broken after 3 miscarriages already.. this is the furthest I had got since them. This baby is so desperately wanted and I feel so heartbroken that there could be something wrong. I feel so guilty.

I have been rushed through to see foetal medicine in 3 days to have further scans and a NIPT test. I know this is not 100% accurate and I know that I may have to have the amnio test, which I know has a risk of miscarriage, another worry to add into the mix.

I dunno, my gut feeling is telling me something is wrong. If it was just the neck fluid I think I could be more positive - but around the abdomen too is not filling me with confidence.

I am a huge worrier anyway by nature, and I know that if there was something wrong with my baby, the guilt would eat away at me but I don’t think I could go ahead with the pregnancy. I don’t feel it would be fair on the baby. My mind is racing with these types of thoughts.

has anyone at all had a positive outcome with this type of thing? Even if your outcome was negative, I would rather have all the facts.

from one very worried Mommy xx

@Valwithhope i would try and not overthink the screening results until you have had NIPT/CVS back. I know that’s difficult. Hopefully it won’t be long before you get the result xx please keep us updated

@Chronicworrier23 I had my CVS back for down Edwards and pataus all clear :) another two weeks wait for more detailed results but I already feel like tonnes of weight lifted off of me!! Trying to stay positive now!

Hope every goes well with your pregnancy now!! How have you been xx

Chronicworrier23 · 24/10/2023 22:43

Hi @Valwithhope - glad to hear all went well with CVS. I didn’t opt for CVS or Amnio as my NIPT came back low, so we decided to stick with that. 25 weeks now and just hope of course we made the right decision trusting the NIPT. I have also had regular scans and all appears well! :) positive thoughts xx

@Chronicworrier23 glad to hear everything is going well for you! I think as you aren't high risk I can understand completely you opted for the NIPT. But everything appears to be ok for you so and I'm sure it was the good decision! :)

Because of the higher fluid measurement I was classified as high so we had the option for CVS.

I'm 20 weeks now and will have my scan next week followed by another with the paediatric cardiology so I'm really hoping everything will be ok. As we are getting closer to the time I'm starting to feel quite nervous again! Not so good experience from the last scan!! We had a strong heart beat with he midwife couple of weeks ago I hope that's a good sign!!

Hi all, just wanted to update everyone to say after all my worrying, I am now holding my perfect baby in my arms who is just a week old. I wanted to update the thread with an end answer as I remember how frustrating it was to be on threads reading them and never know how it all turned out. Hope it all goes well for you all too x

Ah, so lovely! A new little one. I’m an older mum, and various parts of pregnancy / birth are so scary… It’s magic to finally be holding your dream baby.

Hi all. Just wanted to add to this thread finally as I have now my perfectly healthy 10 days old baby boy in my arms! We had 4.5mm NT measured, 1 in 10 for Down and had CVS & heart scan and growth scans!
Please don't lose hope and try to enjoy your pregnancy! Half of my pregnancy was full of tears and agony and now he is here perfectly fine! All the best with your beautiful babies x

AquaDuck · 28/03/2024 18:25

I am glad I read this as I Had a 12 weeks scan yesterday and the same thing happened. We are waiting for other tests and scans. Then told me the normal fluid was usually 3-4mm and our babies is 8.9...

I did a little research and we are trying not to get our hopes up (or down!)

Glad everything turns out great news for you xx
