Hematoma and 6 weeks pregnant

Hi,

I was having pains so decided to go to the emergency pregnancy unit to have a scan, they scanned and told me that the pregnancy is in the right place (not ectopic) but they have found a bleed. They gave me a picture and I was just wondering if anyone could point out where it is on the scan as I forgot to ask?. They also didn’t tell me if it was big or not so I’m pretty worried. If anyone could help that would be great.

Did they not give you printout of the scan report?

I've had 2 haematoma before but can't easily identify yours on this picture.

Did they book you another scan or otherwise say what to expect?

Sarah1375 · 19/07/2023 18:18

No they didn’t give me anything apart from that picture. They didn’t really give me any information all they said was you might miscarry and you might not. They have booked me in to go again in 2 weeks. Did your pregnancy continue with having one yourself ?

I had a bad hemorrhage when I was 12 weeks pregnant.
Went for an emergency scan and the sonographer pointed out a dark patch beside the baby where the bleeding was located.

I had a report printed which stated the size etc of the bleed as they measured the sack of blood. Do you have any paperwork from the scan?

BritishDesiGirl · 19/07/2023 18:50

You should have a report which states the size of the haematoma. It's usually supposed to go into your purple folder.

Sarah1375 · 19/07/2023 18:58

No I received nothing but the picture of the scan, the woman doing the scan called a dr in who said I had a bleed/bruise and it may clear up on its own but I have a higher chance of miscarriage. They didn’t show me where it was or give me any other paperwork.

Hi op, try not to worry, I'm currently 18weeks with my 5th. I had a hematoma what was bighee than the baby sac at 7weeks. By 12 weeks it had totally absorbed. So predominantly these pregnancies are successful. I've never known anyone personally to miscarry with one, so take that as a positive. But it's not to say it can't happen! I can't actually see yours on this scan, usually clear as day
Good luck and keep us updated xxx

Magicbean5 · 19/07/2023 19:08

*sorry I meant that was bigger than baby sac

CottonPyjamas · 19/07/2023 19:14

I can't help with your scan picture, but I had one in my fifth pregnancy (having lost 3 before that for different reasons). He's currently sat in front of me age 11 and is about to start high school. I wish you the best of luck

Whataretheodds · 19/07/2023 19:17

I'm sorry that's really poor care and explanation!

I'd be tempted to call EPU back and ask for a copy of the scan report as uou really unclear what you've been told and what you need to do/not do.

I read some reports about haematoma and the report said that because they are the main cause of bleeding in 1st trimester, if you have one it will be identified. Women who have them but don't bleed won't know about it and so won't know about it if they miscarry.

They often reabsorbed or come away harmlessly. I had a massive one and a MC (not necessarily as a result) and my friend had a big one and the pregnancy produced a healthy now-7 year old.

Sarah1375 · 19/07/2023 19:24

Yeah I have considered ringing Epu back and asking for more information. I’ve had no bleeding or spotting, all I’ve had is some pains that have not gone away much for about 2 weeks now. I have another appointment in two weeks so i will definitely be asking a lot more questions.

@Sarah1375 that's very poor patient care . They should have explained things. Just to reassure you, l also had a haematoma which they discovered in my 12 week scan. It absorbed itself and they also told me that there was a risk of miscarriage but l'm now 31 weeks.

PinkPlantCase · 19/07/2023 19:40

Hi OP I had a subchorionic hematoma in my current pregnancy that was visible on a 8 week private scan. It was a few cm in size. I had some bad period like cramps around 5 weeks but no other symptoms.

I’m now 22 weeks and all is well, the hematoma (pocket of blood) was gone by the time I had the 12 weeks scan. Must have been re absorbed or something!

ShitImPregnant · 19/07/2023 19:42

What sort of pains were you having? I'm 6 months too and am crampy but all on one side. Worried I'm ignoring a symptom

Salamander91 · 19/07/2023 22:11

I can't see it on your picture. I would call the epu for support if you're not happy.

This is my scan where I had a hematoma just so you can see. I didn't have any bleeding and the bleed reabsorbed. She is a very healthy 7 year old girl now.
