Hello. I had my 12 week scan last week. Everything seemed fine and I was on cloud 9. Until I saw a ‘No caller ID’ flash up on my phone yesterday. I knew they called you if something was wrong with the screening results.
they said the results for downs and Edwards’s came back low risk. However they noticed I am low in my Papp-A results. I’d never heard of it to be honest but now im freaking out. This is baby number 2 and im so scared im going to have a miscarriage! I have to be put on aspirin for the rest of my pregnancy and im now classed as high risk and will be under consultant care. Has anyone else had the same result? I need your experiences. Thank you

I am 17weeks and I also have low Papp-A which I found out at the 12 week screening.
I googled it which was a bad idea as nothing but bad stories come up and it terrified me. I spoke to the midwife who said it is a risk factor not a diagnosis, it does increase our risk of having a small / premature baby but she said it may have no effect, or if it does it will likely be at the end of pregnancy. You get extra scans to catch it early if it does happen. Unfortunately there is nothing you can do to change it eg. taking supplements etc, it is just a random event. I feel a lot better after joining a Facebook group called Low Papp-A support group, there are a lot of positive stories on there x

Thank you! I will have a look at that support group. No one I know knows about this so I feel alone! I also googled it and all I can think now is the worst!!! Thank god I’ve booked a gender scan in a few weeks so can check how baby is then. I guess I’m lucky that I’ll probably see baby more on scans after 20 weeks xx

I had low Papp-a with my second, was under a consultant and had extra growth scans etc. He went 10 days over and I got induced, all was fine

I had low papp A in my first pregnancy and had no issues, currently expecting no 2 and have got it again this time. I had my 20 week scan today and the sonographer said he sees loads of ladies with low papp A and 99.9% of the time everything is fine and there are no problems with the pregnancy related to it. Hopefully that reassures you a bit! I quite like the fact I'll get a few extra scans now!

That’s really reassuring thank you!

im quite an anxious person anyway so the thought of more scans will be probably quite good for me in the long run xx
