Would you recommend getting a sweep?

I have an appointment on Monday and was told I'll be offered a sweep then, I'll be 39+3. Not sure whether to have one or not but really want to avoid an induction which is being booked for 40+7. First two labours started spontaneously at 39 weeks exactly so was hoping this one would too but no signs of labour yet. Anyone had a sweep? Does it work and is it painful? Could it cause slow/false labour?

Not sure if I’d recommend to be honest. Wasn’t overly painful but definitely uncomfortable. I’ve had pretty constant cramping since Sunday but nothing more than that. I had my first sweep on Sunday at 40weeks then another sweep yesterday at 40+2. Still no baby so it hasn’t worked for me yet. I’m in two minds about whether I should accept a third sweep on Friday when I’ll be 40+5. I have an induction booked in for next Tuesday but I think I’ll cancel if baby isn’t here by then as I’m happy to go to 42 weeks but got pressured into booking an induction at my last appointment.

I had one for my last and really wouldn’t. I think they are a horrible idea.

Had all my babies by around due date so declined them personally but totally up to you. You could ask to have them at a later date if you prefer
