Anyone got any ideas of herbal stuff I can take to relieve anxiousness and palpatations. I'm 8 weeks pregnant and scared i'll hurt my baby if I take tablets

Hi Flump
I too am 8 weeks and suffering from awful anxiety on and off and the odd panic attack. I have had 2 previous mcs and the anxiety came on me after the first one (having never experienced this before) and I have suffered on and off ever since. In recent days I have been researching alternative therapies and have come across www.seredyn.com

I contacted the manufacturer yesterday and they came back by email today to say that this herbal product is safe to take during pregnancy. I have not ordered any yet as they are shipped from the US. Also I was going to ask my doctor first as I am seeing her later this week so I will let you know. Good luck and if you feel like a chat to help you feel a bit better just let me know :-)

Hi Flump. Give Neal's Yard customer services a call. The are super-helpful

Could you see a hypnotherapist or someone like that for relaxation and breathing exercises?

Dalrymps · 25/02/2008 16:29

i think it's safe to take rescue remedy, you can get it at boots, sure there's info somewhere about it (gone to have a look)

foxythesnowman · 25/02/2008 16:29

Even a hypnotheraphy CD - was great when I was PG with DC4. NCT do them.

Dalrymps · 25/02/2008 16:36

ah here we go - rescue remedy

GerrardWinstanley · 25/02/2008 16:38

is it being pregnant that's making you anxious or have you suffered from anxiety before?

babycakes26 · 25/02/2008 16:44

The pharmacist at Boots told me not to use Rescue Remedy due to alcohol content (yes mimute I know) - has anyone else heard this??

Sorry to hear you are suffering from this.

I suffered panic attacks for many many years and it led to other things etc.

IME the best think you can do it learn and find some relaxation techniques. Self talk helps. When you feel yourself about to have one....cup hands over your mouth and breathe slowly...in for seven seconds and out for ten. The carbon diox you are breathing out helps to calm as you take it back in and it also regulates your breathing and helps you to stop hyperventalating which is what the panic attack is.

Also....talk about them....when your having one dont be afraid to say so to whoever your around. I found alot of anxiety came from trying to keep them to myself and tensing up etc.....

It's also worth doing some sort of lifestyle plan to try and find the source of your panic attacks. IME I dont know what caused them but in the end it was simply the fear of another panic attack so that I was actualy causing them. Having a lifestyle plan gave me something positive to focus on.

I have tried so many herbal remedies and tablets etc and self help was all that worked for me anyway in the longterm.

HTH

I wouldn't take anything in the first 12 weeks unless you have to. Def try hypnotherapy - maybe there is someone training in your area who would be cheap.

Dalrymps · 25/02/2008 17:09

Yeah rescue remedy is alcohol based but the link I have done is to one that is not alcohol based (normal rr is ok whilst bf but not sure about when pregnant) HTH

Thanks for your help everyone. Ive had anxiety before and I think it was going to come before I even got pregnant, i'm a mature student at uni and have finals. I will research these remedies you suggest and let you all know the outcome. Thanks again
