Clothes for early pregnancy?

I'm only 13-14 weeks but finding my jeans way too tight around the tum now... and today was the first day it's been too cold to wear a dress!

Does anyone have any recommendations for leggings / jeans that are suitable for this stage of pregnancy? I'm worried proper maternity stuff will be way to big.

For context, I'm size 14/16 so wasn't slim before pregnancy!

Also, is there anywhere you can actually look at maternity clothes in real life?? Everywhere near me (next, M&S) all say they only stock stuff online..

Any help or advice welcome!

It’s my second pregnancy - first time round I held off buying/wearing “proper” maternity clothes for ages as it felt silly wearing them “too early” but then by the time I decided it was time to start getting maternity things I thought there’s not much point now, I’ll be having the baby soon! So I lived in the same few outfits and it really got me down towards the end! I’m only 9 weeks so very early days, no proper bump yet of course but very bloated - I have got all my maternity bits out and started wearing them and they are so much comfier! They do fit quite early on, the waistbands will be big elastic and stretchy. You can always wear them with the band rolled down at first. In person - my local H&M has some in store, I also found Jojo maman bebe had quite a few bits if there’s one local to you. If you have any baby shops/boutiques near you they will probably have a small maternity selection too 😊

Only places I’ve found them is h&m but only in one store, and Jojo maman Bebe. Have a look at vinted and buy second hand. Love leggings are great legging, only ones I found that didn’t go see through but they’re expensive. Next jeans were a good fit. I’ve got 2 pairs of the exact same jeans from h&m, ones black and one grey, black perfect fit grey won’t go past my knees. Avoid boo-boo. Everything was absolutely rubbish

*boo hoo

Honestly, they are a bit pricey but the best thing I did was picking up a pair of lululemon align HR leggings second hand in a size up from what I would normally wear. They saw me through the whole pregnancy, and I still wear them now because they’re mega comfy. The maternity specific bits that I got from H&M were fine but literally had holes in by the end of the pregnancy because they quality was so poor.

I walked round town today, and none of the clothes shops had maternity ranges except H&M, but they didn’t have my size in the limited range available.

I got a few oversized tops from Primark. I’ve ordered leggings from Love Leggings (Lovall). I also ordered maternity clothes from Shein, but sent most back as the tops are nowhere near big enough for later in pregnancy and the dresses seem quite short.

I got a pair of wide leg trousers from Tesco with an elasticated waist, in the next size up, and they’ve done me well so far (currently 24 weeks).

I bought these maternity tights from New Look: https://www.newlook.com/uk/womens/accessories/hosiery/maternity-2-pack-black-premium-opaque-100-denier-tights/p/835147201

They've been a life saver. I also couldn't fit in any of my old jeans any more from very early on, so have been relying on dresses and tights so far. Maternity dresses I bought a few from Shein and they fit me quite well from around 5 months to now 8 months. I'm quite petite though (size 4/6 before pregnancy) and the bump is not particularly big. I also tried ordering some maternity dresses from Tu and New Look but they turned out too big for me.

I picked up lots of cheap trousers/jeans on vinted for a few pounds in either my normal size or a size up. Most were only a few pounds each compared to £30 odd for jeans in h&m. A couple of bits don't fit but I'll just resell them again afterwards :) tops I got a few in asda and then some larger stuff in primark. I'm 21 weeks now and firmly in maternity wear. I actually bagged up all my regular clothes today and put them in the loft as I didn't have much space to have it all in drawers/wardrobe. :)

H&M and Next are the only ones that have maternity stuff in store where I am. I loved my H&M maternity jeans during the second trimester, they were definitely too tight around the waistband by the end of second trimester. Next maternity jeans I bought just a few weeks ago and are still super comfy at 35 weeks.

For leggings I've been wearing Love Leggings which has been recently rebranded to Lovall. Bought them a couple of sizes up which helps for comfort also!

I kept my second quiet till 20 weeks due to mc so had to hide it a lot. I wore leggings and a peplum top or smock top, smock dress and leggings generally. You just have to avoid anything that reveals a bump. Scarves are handy but it’s a bit summery for them!

top like this. Or a loose blouse like this. You could get some maternity jeans to wear with a longer top. I found new look jeans like this weren’t comfy beyond about 25 weeks but were handy from 12-25 weeks.

Our local Asda has a good range of maternity clothes in store and really reasonable prices too, i grudged paying loads when I'd only be in them for a short time. At the start I lived in stretchy leggings (just normal sized not maternity) and found they were comfortable up until around 20 weeks then I started wearing maternity ones. Vinted is fab for maternity bits too

Peony654 · 16/07/2023 08:26

im only 8 weeks but been very bloated. I got some light trousers with elastic waist from Sainsbury’s which are so comfy (not maternity), and otherwise been wearing my looser dresses.

RGxo13 · 16/07/2023 08:46

Top shop on ASOS online over the bump leggings have saved my life this whole pregnancy. Everything else I got off Shein for cheap and cheerful x
