Is it ok to take Lactulose at 37 weeks onwards?

Sorry if that is a stupid question but an older relative has just scared me by saying "you don't want the baby releasing meconium into your waters!!!" by taking laxatives cos I am in so much pain with not being able "to go" u know?

I thought it was just the whole old wives tale about taking caster oil to speed up labour that might affect the baby... Now I am paranoid (surprise surprise) since I took 15ml dose of lactulose and am worried it might pass over to the baby and I don't want it to be affected...

SORRY if this is a completely paranoid ranting but maternity leave gives you a l-o-o-o-t of time to overthink overthink overthink...

Thanks for your help....

I had an early pregancy worry that becuase i ate a bit of cheese which had a bit of mould on ( was too late when i noticed ) that i was going to get listeria and that it would all end terribly
my dear friend told me to stop worrying needlessly
good luck

I took it all through preg with dd2 on prescription from doc. All was fine.

Lactulose stays in the gut, doesn't even get into your blood, never mind the baby's.
Look forward to a lovely big poo!

Spockster Ahhhh you made me laugh!!! Thanks

I had a works night out to an italian restaurant just about the time I found out I was pregnant and ate parma ham - or was it proscuittio..... the raw meat one - without even thinking and then read a few baby websites and was completely convinced of toxoplasmosis...

Hence my adorable (not) but appropriate username.
