Big tummy

Hi, I'm a little worried I'm 37+5 and was at my scan yesterday and they said my baby has a big tummy. When looking on the screen to be honest it did look massive.
they said he was weighing around 7,14lbs.

im worried that he is going to be born huge and unhealthy. Anyone else had this before?

thank you

DS, due tomorrow, was on the 98th centile for tummy size proportionate to my size at his last scan two weeks ago (90th centile averaged out - I’m a shorty). The doctors don’t seem worried - as long as he’s in normal parameters they’re content. I’ve asked and been reassured repeatedly that it’s unlikely to cause any issues except that a natural birth is potentially a bit trickier with a bigger baby (of course).

Do you have GD? That can contribute to a massive baby.

I am having a C section by choice. You may wish to seek specific advice from your midwife or doctor on a natural birth with a big baby.

We had measurements like this at various points. He had a 95th centile head in one scan, a large ab circumference on another, and stubby legs on one. When he was born he was 8lb5 and perfectly normal. He was born 38+4 and I think they got the dating wrong initially based on our own calculations. Sometimes the measurements can be off.

My little one measured 90th centile for his tummy and high 80s for everything else, always minimum two weeks ahead on fundal height measurements and estimated 6lb 8oz at 36+3 scan.

delivered him last week at 37 weeks and he was a tiny 5lb 13oz and nothing to him!

I think the scans can be very inaccurate so I hope you don’t worry too much and can put your mind at ease a little. My midwife also said they aren’t concerned at all as long as they are on the chart basically. They only worry about little babies on scans.

Good luck!

Hey,

yeah I have been tested for GD it came back negative. The consultant I sore yesterday didn't seem to worried as she advised he is following his own little trend of weight gain each time however I could just be over thinking with it being my first and don't want him to have any health issues with a big tummy.

thanks for you reply.
