Blighted ovum

Hello all I’m so scared, has my first scan at 5 weeks 2 days could only see gestational sac and yolk sac no embryo has rescan on Sunday at 6 weeks 1 day and again could only see gestational sac and yolk sac no embryo these were private scans. I’ve been referred to the early pregnancy unit and have a nhs scan on Friday and I’m terrified. They said it could have been early still or it’s a blighted ovum which it’s where the sac grows but no embryo. Has anyone had anything like this then seen a baby 😭

I’m just got to add that my first scan the sac was 6 now it’s doubled to 12.70 hopefully that’s good

Hi, I can’t offer any reassurance but thought I’d drop a post in to say I’m in the same position. I had to be seen at EPU for some cramping and they could see GS & YS but no embryo at 5+6. Trying to stay positive at the moment but the 12 day wait between scan 1 and rescan will be painful!

Your still very very early so there's lots of chance it could be fine. They usually don't recommend an early scan till atleast 7 weeks.

I had a blighted ovum previously and there was no yolk. Just an empty sac. I didn't think you got a yolk with BO (that's my understanding)

hopefully your scan shows a heartbeat next tIme after a little more time 🙏

I would say you’re probably just too early. It’s not really recommended quite that early.

Was everything okay at the next scan?

Currently in the same situation as you. Went to the early pregnancy unit on Wednesday due to bleeding. Had a scan and they measured the sac at around 6 weeks. I would have been 5 weeks 6 days but there was no baby or heartbeat.

They said this can be normal as they wouldn’t usually expect to see a baby until at least 6 weeks.

I feel worried but just hoping that we will see a fetal pole at our next scan.

@glasspaw @Meganann i know this is an old thread but I wondered what happened please? Currently the same. 5w4 days. GS and Yolk Sac but no embryo 😞
