Does BV in pregnancy mean I can't breastfeed? :(

Hi everyone,

Third time getting BV. Antibiotics seem to work. But had sex and now it's back.

I just don't know what to do. I can't go swimming on holiday this weekend, I feel like I can't have sex.

Is there any point in antibiotics again?

And if I'm on antibiotics I think I won't be able to breastfeed.

Any advice?

Depends on the antibiotics as some are safe for breastfeeding.

You'll have been given antibiotics that are safe for pregnancy. If you're off on holiday you can't be that close to giving birth so they'll be long out of your system before you want to breastfeed. If you need antibiotics again then the doctors can give you ones that are safe for breastfeeding.

Have they looked at why its happening? I know with recurrent thrush they sometimes need to treat your partner.

Thanks . One doctor said if it happens again they'd look at why. Another said no it can just keep happening and Id need to go on antibiotics permanently From what I've read men can't get bv unlike thrush but we used a condom this time anyway.

I'm only 11 weeks pregnant but if it keeps happening I'm worried it's an ongoing issue.

How about some kind of preventative probiotic type thing for down there?

When I was pregnant I had Utis constantly. Something I never usually get. Sex seemed to make it worse too! I had it maybe 5 times in pregnancy? Once to the point I was peeing blood and in severe pain! They had to keep giving me antibiotics, all pregnancy safe ones. Eventually my body stopped getting constant Utis and baby was born fine, able to breastfeed etc. I was further along than you at the time too. He's 5 now 😊 try not to stress and let the doctors treat it x
