Feeling guilty for taking antisickness meds and laxatives while pregnant

I'm currently 14 weeks pregnant and have been on anti-sickness meds since 6 weeks. I've been hospitalised twice with HG needing IV fluids and anti-sickness. I'm now on ondansetron which has been a lifesaver however the constipation (TMI) is a killer. I'm now taking fybogel and lactulose to try and get some form of normality back into my bowels. I am however seriously struggling with anxiety, I'm so worried about the effect this is having on my baby and how these medications could impact them. Everything has been prescribed either by a doctor or pharmacist but it hasn't helped my worries. This is my first baby so I'm so worried that I'm failing them already.

Has anyone been through similar?

Those wouldn’t be prescribed to you if they would harm your baby. And if they could cause harm, then your doctor would explain it to you. I needed all of those during my pregnancies! Nothing else would get me through either of my pregnancies and I suspect many women are the same! I hope you feel better soon.

I think they learnt their lesson a long time ago with thalidomide. They wouldn't prescribe an anti-sickness tablet that was harmful to your baby.

Hi,

Congratulations first of all.
The doctor prescribing would only prescribe something safe for you to take.
Your not failing your baby Flowers what you are doing, is trying to take medicine to allow you (and your baby!) nutrition and fluids.
As far as I'm aware, your body will prioritise giving baby what they need anyway.
Your doing great.

I had HG....its awful isn't it... I ended up in hospital twice on various anti sickness and finally steroids...my dd is now a healthy tween so try not to worry

Seriously, you'd be doing more harm by leaving things untreated.
HG is horrendous. I had anti sickness medication without any side effects - DD will be 19 at the end of this month.
Hope things start to improve soon.

Hi Sam, im feeling just like you was. It seems around the time your bubba has arrived and I'm just wondering what helped you and did you get through it? Sending you love 💐

Hello, try searching "ondansetron pregnancy Reddit" in Google and I think you'll find some calming stuff on some threads there. I didn't have HG but found out I was pregnant abroad and was very sick and nauseas just in week 6-7 and was given ondansetron OTC in a pharmacy. I started to worry and read a lot of feedback from women on Reddit whose pregnancies ended up fine after taking this medicine - some literally had to take it throughout their whole pregnancies. Also I believe Fybogel is absolutely recommended for constipation in pregnancy - it even says it's fine to take while pregnant on the box. Sending you hugs xxx
