Short Cervix

Does anyone know if the 20 week scan looks at the cervix? Despite no history of any issues (although I've never been pregnant before) a short cervix is something I've read about and am really worried about.

No they don’t. They have separate scans for cervical length. I have to have them due to a previous Lletz treatment. If you’re not deemed as at risk for a shortened cervix try not to worry about it

I have regular cervical length scans due to previous early shortening in my previous pregnancy and it was very hard in the beginning to get into the system to get scanned regularly for this pregnancy.
Before I was getting seen by a consultant I paid to have a private cervical length scan so if you are worried you could always have it measured privately first and then if there's anything concerning take that to your midwife asap x

I had similar worries as a result of very severe BH from about 18/19 weeks. You can ask them to check and they should, this is what I did. though it’s apparently not very accurate through an abdominal scan.

Hi everyone, I’m a little late to comment but would like to know if you were able to get an extra scan to check your cervical length? @Rose1999

I’m feeling the exact same, it’s my first pregnancy and through IVF so my anxiety is sky high. I’ve been having a few mild vaginal cramps and of course went down a rabbit hole googling the symptoms. I am worried about short cervix/insufficiency. I can’t find anything only about private healthcare to have this measured, where is best to go? A private hospital or fertility clinic?

Apologies for the million questions!

Rose1999 · 24/09/2023 12:29

Hey, no I was unable to get it checked. It was one of the first things I saw on Google and spent weeks and weeks worrying about it. I'm 30 weeks now and still worrying 🙈
It's a shame that I've not been able to enjoy my pregnancy. It's been all anxiety.

Congratulations and I hope all goes well x

@Rose1999
I'm honestly the same, currently 19 weeks and the anxiety is unreal! I’ve got my 20 week scan in a weeks time, so will mention it to them, but I doubt they’ll actually do anything.

Congratulations on 30 weeks :) hopefully it all goes smoothly ❤️

Lillybobs86 · 24/09/2023 19:19

If your worried I would advice finding private cervical Scan for reassurance x

Clueless13 · 25/09/2023 08:34

@Lillybobs86 Yeah I am thinking of doing this, I don’t want to spend weeks stressing 😩 I’ll have a Google to see where I can get this done x

I took part in a trial in 2002 at kings college hospital in London where they scanned everyone regardless of risk, I'm unaware of the outcomes of that trial but they were potentially working out of it's worth scanning everyone

King's are still doing routine cervical scans at the anomaly. I WAS low risk and FTM, but they incidentally found a short cervix
