High NT in one twin - please help

Hello everyone, 29 years old and my first pregnancy.

I am 12w4d pregnant with identical twins. Sadly twin two has high NT of 9mm, I was taken to kings college in London to see professor Nicolaides who said he isn't sure why when the twins share genetics being identical, that only twin two has the high fluid. My hospital consultant said high risk of Edwards, Downs or Patau but they can't work out why only one has high fluid.

I had CVS and I get my results in a couple of days and further results within two weeks.

There has been lots of talk about selective production and the risk that both my babies will be very unwell so this may not be an option, I'm so overwhelmed and scared.

Professor did say miracles happen and he has seen the fluid totally reduce but also said twin two is very worrying.

I am petrified, please has anyone experienced similar or got any advice or lifting stories?

Thank you for reading x

No advice OP, just want to say I've been there getting bad news (DS was sadly discovered brain damaged during pregnancy 💔), and I understand the heartache.
With my son's condition I joined a Facebook group during the time waiting for tests etc and I got some great support/answers as everyone in that group understood the condition, I wonder if there's one you could join?
I hope that a miracle does happy and your little twins are okay. Sending so much love xxx

Hi @winnietwinmumtobe just came across your thread and I’m in a similar position - one twin with a reading over the cut off. I just wondered if you’d share an update? 🤍

Hiya, I am now 25 weeks 4 days pregnant, the CVS result came back clear for both my babies. I learnt that my smaller twin had SUIGR and I later had laser ablation surgery to save them both. Sadly my smaller twin passed away and at a follow up scan at Great Ormand Street showed concerns of TTTS which is likely why the nuchal was high on one of my twins. Sending you lots of love xx

Thank you so much for sharing your update and I’m so sorry you lost one of your twins.

I’m 13 weeks with dichorionic twins. I decided not to have CVS as I’d had a harmony test at 10 weeks which showed low probability of D, E & P.

From 16-17 weeks we’re going to consider amniocentesis for the twin with the higher reading but right now I’m just keeping everything crossed that the next few scans show the NT measurement decreasing. Wishful thinking, I know.

Wishing you a happy and healthy rest of your pregnancy xxx

I wish I knew how common it was for a high NT to then reduce! Please do not worry. Sending you love xx
