Going to triage too much?

first pregnancy and have been worried about a few things. Have called my gp for a couple of different things, cramping, pressure, suspected UTI, and they usually advise me to call my midwives, community midwives then usually advise me to call triage.

whenever I call triage they always seem to ask me to go down so they can assess. I’m only 23 weeks and have already attended 3 times… once for cramping pains, once for pressure in belly, and once for uti…

I really feel like I’m attending too much and wasting peoples time. It’s just difficult as I’ve only seen my midwife once this pregnancy, next appointment is end of month and GP is no help whatsoever ….

should I stop calling and push gp more or did anyone else find they had been to triage quite a lot in their first pregnancy?

If you feel you need medical advice/attention you are absolutely correct to pursue it without feeling one bit bad about it. Maybe it will be plain sailing from here on in and you won’t need extra appointments. If you do, don’t worry about it. This is what Wes re all paying our taxes for

Don't feel bad at all about going in - it's certainly better to be safe than sorry! I went in a few times with reduced movements and the midwives were wonderful and told me to keep coming back if I needed to.

Howcome you've only seen your community midwife once? 🤔

Littlelighthouse · 08/07/2023 14:44

Definitely don't feel bad OP, even if they make you feel a 'nuisance' just remind yourself that you're entitled to be there and you're caring for your baby. When baby is here, you, and they, won't remember all the times you were there. If they make you feel bad that's a 'them issue', always look after your little one 💙

I was in so often the receptionist knew my name and used to say "back again?" (In a nice welcoming way though!) - go as much as you feel you need. Better safe than sorry and it's what you've paid your National Insurance for!

Definitely don’t feel bad! At all. Though my gp did deal with some of those issues you’ve mentioned. I had a uti/ kidney infection for example at 25 weeks and my gp dealt with that rather than pushing me to triage.

But regardless, definitely don’t feel bad, if something feels wrong then someone needs to look at you!

Oh thank you so much ladies you’ve really reassured me I feel like I’m always bloody there but it’s nice to know I’m not alone in that! X

I have placenta previa (with bleeding), I'm rhesus negative, baby rhesus positive. Want to guess how often I'm down at triage? 🤣

Your GP won’t do much and will tell you to contact midwife. You should have seen your midwife more though. Your booking appointment, at 16 weeks and at 24 weeks. You can call triage as much as you need though. Better to get checked out

LittleBumblebee3 · 08/07/2023 19:02

@Ozabet40 Just another one reassuring you that you should call whenever you need 😊 The midwives would rather see you 30 times and it be “for nothing” than you ignoring something and it being the one time that you should have gone 😊

@FlyingHighFlyingLow 🤣 you’re definitely going to be on first name terms with all the staff at triage 😅 how long do you have to go?

Wishing you both nice healthy pregnancies!

Hollyppp · 08/07/2023 19:33

I went in once for pregnancy 1 and once for this pregnancy. I think you’re probs above average but they would want to see you if you’re worried about things especially reduced movement

Stressedoutforever · 08/07/2023 19:40

I felt so bad about going I nearly didn't when my waters had started to leak and could have caught an infection and lost my son. The midwife told me off and said they don't care if its nothing, if you need to go then go!
