Haemoglobin low but iron level normal??

I'm 33w now and I was found to have low Haemoglobin at the blood test at 28w, so they asked me to take iron tablets. The recent blood test done at 32w shows Haemoglobin drops a bit further but my iron level, folate level, and Vitamin B12 levels are all normal. I'll put the question to the midwife / doctors at my next appointment but meanwhile just wondering if anyone has had similar experience pls? Thanks.

I'm the same, my HB was low at 28 weeks (109, down from 126 at booking in). All other levels fine.

I've been taking spatone twice a day, having repeat bloods at 36 weeks.

I'm 32+5 right now by the way.

Thanks for the comments! My HB was 106 so they put me directly on 200mg iron tablets. But the fact that it didn't improve and my iron level is actually within normal range now makes me think whether my low HB is due to some other reason...

The results need interpreting by the people who know you and ordered them, but generally, I t’s normal for Hb to drop during pregnancy, but being iron deplete can make that more dramatic. It sounds like you might now just have the normal physiological (dilutional) anaemia of pregnancy without any additional iron deficiency (the Hb may have dropped more if it hadn’t been for the iron tablets). Ferritin isn’t completely specific for iron deficiency though and that’s why the people who have all the info need to be the ones advising you. HTH.

@Greybeardy Thank you! I'll definitely ask the doctors more about it next time I met them. Last time I called them to ask about my blood results (HB dropped from 106 to 104) and if I need to make any changes to the supplements I'm taking. They didn't sound too concerned about it and just asked me to continue taking the 200mg iron tablets.

Was it iron or ferritin levels they checked? I get iron deficiency anaemia but because of my diabetes I have a raised ferritin level so it makes it look like I'm not low in iron. My gp knows to check my iron stores now.

My haemoglobin is sitting at 89 currently at 14 weeks pregnant 🙈

My iron level and ferritin levels are both normal. HB and red blood cell counts levels are low. I've got GD too but didn't know that it actually affect the ferritin levels.
