Breech Baby

Just hoping for some advice/personal experiences,

I'm having regular growth scans due to a few complications (sky high BP, GD, low growth factor) and since 27 weeks baby has been breech. She's got her head just under my ribs on my right side, her bum down and her legs back up over.

I'm now 34 weeks and had another scan on Tuesday. The consultant was so lovely and just said she may still turn but she seems comfy where she is, and it would be best to get a plan in place.

We went through the different options and I declined an ECV (I'm a little bigger and have a soft bump so really don't think it would have worked), so we've booked in an ELCS at 38+5. He then said if at the next couple of scans she has turned we'll cancel the section.

A section wasn't what I initially wanted but with all the complications I've had, I knew it was likely. I've got used to the idea and now quite like that I've got a plan in place/know when I'll meet baby.

However now I'm worrying that baby will turn and my plan will go out of the window! So my question is has anyone had the same and then baby suddenly turned? Will I feel her turn if she does? I feel her kicks quite low down but then lots of roll type movements on my right side. My bump has dropped a bit and the rolling movements are now closer to my belly button but she is still kicking low. How will the movements feel if she suddenly turns head down?

I know it sounds daft but I've just had such an uncertain pregnancy that I like the idea of my birth being quite planned.

My baby was breech and didn't turn but I just wanted to say that you're very much within your rights to still stick to the plan of a c section even if baby does turn! Best of luck and congrats

No experience of breech baby, but wanted to say that you are able to have a planned c section rather than a vaginal birth if this is what you would prefer, just ask your midwife.

My breech baby turned at 38 weeks, but as pp have said, you can still push for a section even so and there are definitely pros to having one for sure.
I will just say tho, I've had 3 vaginal births and 1 c section and there is a remarkable difference with regards to healing and I struggled massively with how many months it took and the lasting effects that I still have 2 years on from it in comparison with the very short time after the vaginal births.

Is this your first baby? As I was told if baby is breach in second trimester they very rarely turn as they are comfortable and have been in that position for a while. FTM also have a less stretchy uterus so less likely to turn

My baby turned the day before my planned section! I felt a lot of movement so I had a feeling she had, but she was turning around quite a bit and never really settled. I really wanted a vaginal birth but had got my head into the idea of a section so was disappointed tbh. The section was planned at 39 weeks to avoid any risks of cord prolapse if I started labour, so I waited another week but ended up being induced and then had a C-section after all. The problem was that even though she’d turned she wouldn’t engage. Not sure if that’s common or not but the consultants all seemed a bit baffled and refused to break my waters so it was what it was. I did find the recovery hard after a section though.

Just to add though, I could still choose to have a c-section after she had turned but it would’ve been at a later date rather than 39 weeks as that appointment was saved for someone else who needed it more and I went to the bottom of the list.

DC2 was breech until the last 2 weeks of pregnancy and I went into labour at 39+4. He then turned again during labour and I had a spontaneous breech delivery, the thought of which had been terrifying me but actually was very smooth and calm! I was dead set on a C Section but was talked out of it after he turned so if that's your wish, make sure you fight for it!! Ironically delivery and recovery were both much smoother than my previous forceps delivery.

I had an unstable lie so baby was all over the place, had elective csection booked in from 37.5 weeks and baby changed to head down on the day of my section, and I still had the option to carry on as planned or be induced. It was always 100% my choice even though they had gone over and over the risks of csection but I had already resided myself to csection from early on due to the babies lie so I was set on that. It was a good job I did as baby was massive (way bigger than all scans had said!!) And I had undiagnosed polyhydraminos and had a PPH which if I wasn't already in theatre, I would have ended up in theatre with!

Thank you all so much for your advice ladies!

She is my first baby and I do get the impression she's just comfy where she is. I really don't think she'll turn but if she does I will still stick with the plan of a section and hope the consultant doesn't try and talk me out of it.

Getting nervous/ excited now as its under 4 weeks away!

I don't mind at all! She stayed breech the whole time, in the exact same place so I had a c-section. It was wonderful and I healed really well! X
