Hi all, I’ve just accepted a promotion in my org which I’m super happy about, I’m going to managed by an awesome woman who’s super well respected. However, 2 days after I accepted the job I realised I’m pregnant. So after spending all that time doing recruitment, she’s going to have to do it all again next year for a Mat leave cover.

I feel bad. How do I handle this without burning bridges? What’s the etiquette? I’m not going to tell her til 12 weeks I don’t think (just in case anything goes wrong).

It's fine, you're legally protected against discrimination (aware some companies do try though). If its the same organisation you should be entitled to maternity pay? Might be worth checking, I'd tell her as soon as you feel comfortable so they can do a risk assessment and also any sickness etc you need doesn't count as normal absence if its pregnancy related.

Congratulations and try not to worry!
