Will I be sent for growth scan if baby falls below 10th percentile line? Would they induce early?

I'm almost 34 weeks and depending on how this week's appointment will go I will be sent for a growth scan.

Baby is small and just about over the 10th percentile line. If it falls below 10th line will I be sent for a growth scan or will they be satisfied if its showing continued growth no matter that it's small?

How early would they induce if it was under 10th or 5th percentile?

I think it depends on how other factors are, such as fluid, placenta function, cord flow, etc.

DD1 was <10th centile at 39+6 and was induced that day. They would have waited until the next day but I had my bags and said to crack on.

DD2 stopped growing at 35+2. I had the option to monitor but took the view of easier to monitor what's in front of me than what's inside me. The registrar disagreed with me. I asked whether she could guarantee my baby's health and she couldn't. The consultant said that either view was valid, so I was induced the next day.

DD3 had low fluid at 38+4, so was induced that day.

I can only say for my experiences but I would plan to be sent for a scan, if they're going off bump measurements until now then they'll want to have a better idea. All info is useful info!

My first pregnancy was very straightforward until my 40 week appt where the midwife felt my bump hadn't grown since last time so sent me off for a same day scan. Baby was measuring 10th ish so they offered induction just based on that, I was 40 weeks exactly with no other factors. When she was born she was 9th centile so they weren't far out. She had complications from being small for gestational age that we know of.

Second pregnancy had growth scans planned in from the start because of previous SGA baby, and sure enough she was also measuring around the 10th. Based on this and my history the consultant was planning a 37 week induction. But I then went to my last growth scan at about 36 weeks and she was suddenly around the 40th centile so the consultant signed me back off to midwife-led! I did end up being induced again anyway when I got to 41 weeks but that was because of my age and gestation.

I 1000% agree with you on call with DD2.. I would have done the exact same.

Thinking I best get my bags packed to be safe than sorry. Looking at the trajectory it's due to fall under the 5th line.

I think they key thing with me was they were happy to go to 37 weeks even with a sub-10th baby because she had consistently followed that line, they were happy enough to watch and wait til the magic 37 weeks as there were no other factors or markers again, just a baby measuring consistently small. She was 7lb5 at 41 weeks so an unremarkable size really.

If it had been a sudden tail off like my first (maybe, I suspect she was small all along looking back) then I think they'd have gone for 'better out than in' at that point, given time for steroids to kick in I guess. She was 6lb10 at 40+4 so not tiny but definitely petite.

Both my DDs were SGA, one on the 4th and one on the 9th.

Doctors whipped DD1 out at 38+0 because she wasn't putting any fat on and had a very small tummy. DD2 kept cooking till 39+1 and then induced.

I was scanned at 37w as growth had been dropping consistently and after that scan (she dropped to 7th or 8th centile i think?), i was asked if i would consent to induction at 39w. So it wasn't straightaway. I had agreed, but DD had her own timeline in mind and i went into spontaneous labour at 38w so no induction needed in the end.

Midwife was concerned with my bump measurements and sent me for a scan at 38 weeks, DD was showing as 25th centile then. As the placenta was functioning ok they said to leave it 2 weeks and rescan.

She was born naturally at 40+2 on the 5th centile - 6lbs 1oz no complications went home same day. She's 3 now and still on 9th centile I just don't think she was destined to be big. I did have an appointment to discuss induction but gave birth the day before.

As she was SGA I now have a consultant appointment for DC2 at 21 weeks and I guess I will have additional scans. Hope it all goes well for you x
