Combined Screening 12 weeks

Hi, I am 12 weeks pregnant today and my dating scan flagged up a NT reading of 4.1mm and the blood test came back today as higher risk with a 1 in 5 chance for Down Syndrome, my hcg reading is 0.68, has anyone had this before and it’s turned out to be nothing? It has taken 2 years to get pregnant, I am 41 and my husband is 43 so our age is against us. Can’t help thinking the worst. Had NIPT today and have to wait another week for results.

Hi, I am not sure if I can be of much help.
I just didnt want to read and run.

I had my 12 week screening back in June, I received a letter advising me of my risk.

I believe the combined risk is calculated using the NT reading, blood test, your age, ethnicity, if you smoke and your weight.

I was never advised of my blood test result that was taken at the dating scan.

Before I went for my 12 week scan, I was unsure of what to expect and I did read of a few people saying on here that they had a high risk but then turned out to be fine.

Sorry I cant be of much help, all the best and good luck xxx

@X23rdg I'm in a similar position. Only I'm 33, and my screening showed 1in 17 chance. NT was normal for me, but high HCG and low pap-a. Had the NIPT done on Thursday, so just the waiting game now too.
I would think age will be the main factor for you, as I believe the age related risk alone at 40+ is 1in100. Hopefully your nipt results will come back low risk

Hi, just thought I would share my experience. I have 4 children already, my eldest being 20! I am having a surprise pregnancy at 42 years old. We were given the NHS screening test which came back at 1:18 and NF was 2.99 mm.

I refused amnio due to risk of miscarriage and opted for NIPT instead Came back as high risk. I have researched and researched and researched and accepted baby will have DS. We are under care of fetal medicine and baby is doing fabulous. Currently 30 weeks. I experienced fear, anxiety, cried lots etc at first but have now accepted it and am actually excited. She is just a baby at the end of the day and will just be a different journey with this one. I am determined to make it work and for her to have a full and happy life xxx

@X23rdg I've been given a 1 in 16 risk and just awaiting nipt results. I have seen someone on here say multiple health care professionals say that hormonal tablets and progesterone in early pregnancy can alter the results. I'm now wondering if this is true as I was on a high dose of progesterone, 9 tablets over 3 days

X23rdg · 17/09/2023 16:54

I was given 1 in 5 and your odds are far better than mine were and mine turned out to be absolutely fine. The hormone tablets will definitely affect your hcg levels, what was your NT measurement? Your odds give you a 6% chance of a problem which is really really good. When did you have your NIPT? Mine took a week in total for the results, longest week of my life tho x

My hcg was 3× higher than they should be apparently, my NT was 2.4, I had my nipt on Thursday so I'm a nervous wreck xx

X23rdg · 21/09/2023 10:02

Any news yet? Xx

@X23rdg nothing yet. Had the nipt a week ago today, me trying to be positive keeps thinking, maybe as the results are taking a while it's good news...but who knows. She did say the results will take 1-2 weeks but normally come back quicker xx

Mummyo1 · 21/09/2023 15:30

@X23rdg just had my results, low risk for all 3! Hardest week of my life and I feel so blessed xx

X23rdg · 21/09/2023 15:34
