5 week scan and nothing

I had a scan at 5 weeks + 2. They couldn't see anything. I have another scan booked at 6 weeks. Has anyone else been in the same situation and it's been okay later? My hcg went from 72 to 1424 in 6 days

I wasn't able to find anywhere that offered scans earlier than 6 weeks sorry.

How do you measure your hcg please?

My doctor referred me for blood tests for my hcg. The scan wasn't a pregnancy scan. I waited a year on the nhs for a scan to check my ovaries, tubes and uterus after 3 miscarraiges and 2 ectopics. I just happened to get caught at the same time. Because of mt history I'm now being seen by early pregnancy unit.

I had the same with my third, they were scanning because of pain and bleeding and there was no sac. I went back a few days later and they could see two things that could have been then another 2 days and 1 very clear sac.

Thank you for the reply. I'm going to try and relax over the weekend but I have alot of bloating and discomfort which makes me worry more. Hopefully all is fine x

@Louise0808 I had a scan at 7 weeks that showed nothing, I was then booked for a D&C 4 days later at a bigger hospital a fair bit away.
I asked for a scan beforehand and was found to be 10 weeks pregnant.
The explanation was my smaller hospital scanner wasn't as good as the big hospital.
I'm keeping everything crossed you'll have a similar situation. My DS is now 17 and was born exactly on his due date.

Oh I'm so sorry. From my understanding an ultrasound doesn't always pick up at 5 weeks, and it sounds positive that your hcg is increasing. I hope everything goes okay next week

I know this is an old thread, but what was the outcome for you? I'm in the exact same situation with being scanned at 5 +2 and nothing being seen yet

You wouldn't normally have a scan so early as there really isn't anything to see at this point - it won't be much better at 6 weeks to be honest.

At 6 weeks on the dot there are no guarantees that there will be an embryo or heartbeat. If you're lucky you should see a yolk sac and fetal pole so at least you know it's developing in the right place.

It's better to get a scan after 8 weeks as there is much more to see and your risk of MC drops significantly when you've seen a healthy heartbeat at 8 weeks or over.
