NIPT test/Scan

Hiya! I am pregnant with my first after trying for over a year. I am currently 11weeks 5 days. My first Data scan is booked for when I am 13w 1d.
I have been for a reassurce scan at 9 weeks and noticed the same clinic offered an NIPT scan. As I am 35 (so slightly higher risk) am considering having one. I spoke to my midwife about this at my booking appointment and she advised maybe to wait for my Data Scan and if anything comes back of any concern to then have an NIPT. But I confused if this would be offered to me after the Data scan or if I would still need to go ahead and do this privately? And not sure how long the whole process would take to get any clearer results and weather just booking it privately and paying the money would give me more peace of mind quicker.

Sorry I know might seem like a sillly question that I could probably find the answer to myself. Just feeling overwhelmed with the amount of information avalible and the exhaustion I am currently feeling I just wanted to reach out on here.

So on the NHS you are given your screening test at your dating scan. This is where they will scan you and measure the NT and take bloods. Your bloods will then be tested and alongside your NT measurement you will get a result of low or high risk for Down's syndrome, Edwards' syndrome and Patau's syndrome. If you are a low risk then they do no further tests but if you are high risk then they do the NIPT for free. So essentially it's completely your choice whether to go ahead and do it early and pay for your own peace of mind or if you can wait for another week or so.
I haven't received my results yet as only had it today haha! But what people have said is that results generally take about 2 weeks if low risk but seem to come back in days if high risk.

Hope this helps some!

I was deemed high risk after initial tests so had a NIPT test on the NHS. We were told it would take up to a week, though it took about 4 days which was pretty good considering it happened over the weekend.
I personally wouldn’t submit myself to additional testing unless I was told I needed it, but I know everyone has difficult ways of dealing with the stress that is pregnancy!

As I'm 42 I went for this option of NIPT which came with a reassurance test included at ten weeks. I went for a more in-depth test as you can see. Results came back in less than a week.

For me I couldn't put a price on peace of mind and didn't want to wait for the nhs testing.

I’m only 31 but I got NIPT just before my NHS scan. It was about £450 but to me it was worth it - it’s slightly more accurate than the NHS combined test and I just wanted to know any bad news asap. Also nice bonus of finding out sex.

With the NHS one they don’t confirm your results for up to two weeks (sometimes longer) if it’s good news. I hate that kind of uncertainty so liked having my NIPT results.

It depends how much you’d miss the c.£450 I think.

I chose to have the NIPT privately at 10 weeks rather than wait until NHS would have offered it which would have been more like 14/15 weeks because I knew that I there were problems found, I would much prefer to have found out and dealt with them 5 weeks earlier.

Thank you for your advice. Ive decided to go for my NIPT tomorrow. Not sure if it was worth it when my Data scan is just over a week away. But sounds like it be a few weeks before I'd get any certain results, if I did need end up being referred for an NIPT.
Thanks again

I googled. Did lots of research. Decided I wanted something a bit more in-depth than the basic as I'm 42. Went to a place in Manchester called my baby company . I think they also do remote testing. Was a brilliant experience. They were super helpful. I decided to go with veracity as it is cheaper than harmony which most people go for, because the lab is in Cyprus so it takes a few days longer to get the results. However even opting for the extra tests, it was still cheaper than harmony xx

NIPT test results.
I had a 1:15 risk of trisomy 21.
Did a test on Tuesday, 8days today, the wait is eating me up.
I cant eat , sleep or concentrate.
They used my age, 38, and the NT was 2.6 the scan was nearly impossible coz of the fibroids, my babies head was under a fibroid was told to walk dance and jump several times but it didnt move.
So i dont think the NT was accurate.
Am stressed, just stressed.
