Help - nothing fills me up!

I thought I was getting over the sickness phase (I'm almost 12 weeks) but now suddenly I'm starving ALL the time, and if I don't eat straight away I feel sick. But I literally cannot get full up - I'm eating loads every few hours! Any tips/special food that'll do the trick? I'm going to be the size of a house soon!

wholemeal toast seems to work for me. I try not to eat cakes and biscuits but fill up on starchy foods: jacket pots, pasta, rice and fruit. If you're eating small snacks throughout the day rather than 3 massive meals then I don't think you need to worry about it. And even if you are eating loads, as long as its not all high in salt fat and sugar then you'll just put a bit of weight on (pretty much goes with the territory when pregnant).

weetabix and banana!

cat, I was like that when pg - by 2nd trimester I was up nearly every night at 4am because I was so freaking hungry! Go on, ask me how impressed I was with THAT!

A bowl of natural (ie, not toasted/sweetened) muesli did it for me. And high protein diet (meat, eggs, cheese) which seemed to stay around just slightly longer.

good luck

I had the same thing in the third trimester. I'd eaten almost nothing for the first two, and I think it was my body trying to make up for it. I tried all the healthy stuff, but I ended up eating cake. It truly was the only thing to fill me up.

cat811 -yep hungry when pg.i was starving all the time.try fruit, wholemeal bread/pitta.listen to to your body eat if you are hungry - don't deprive yourself.

Cat I breath fire if i cant eat!
Between meals im consuming my own body weight (and then some) in fruit, veg, ice lollies, toast, cereal and cheese.
In the morning 4x Wheatabix or lg bowl of wheatabites and an apple or bananna gives me 3hrs grace!

Mashed potato with cheese and gravy

colditz · 24/02/2008 17:24

I was like this in my 2nd trimester both times - but only gained 1.5 stone with ds1, and 11lb with ds2! Just eat until you are satisfied, and if that means all the time, then so be it.

colditz · 24/02/2008 17:25

I too could be found wandering around the house at 3am, crying hormonally and shoveling in thickly buttered cheese sandwiches between sobs. Just eat. You must need it.

Spidermama · 24/02/2008 17:28

God I know the feeling. Maybe you're looking for something specific.

There is one thing which always fills me up but it's a bit radical and you'll probably think me a weirdo .... Hemp milk smoothie.

If you;'re remotely interested I'll talk you through it.

Am 9 weeks and also constantly hungry - mostly for cheese and cake... I'm putting on quite a bit of weight. Oops! I agree with the complex carbs and lots of protein route, it seems to work most of the time, except when the Red Leicester shouts to me from the fridge... Oh and porridge with nuts and seeds first thing keeps me going for 3 hours. Console yourself with the fact that you can eat an extra 300 calories a day now anyway!!

Indith · 24/02/2008 20:12

My MIL always used to tell me to have eggs for breakfast instead of just toast. She swore that used to keep her going til lunch. I just ended up eating the eggs and still snacking all morning on biscuits!

BearMama · 24/02/2008 23:13

I am lucky that I have eaten comparatively little in 3rd trimester but have odd days like you describe. What finally filled me up was a massive pan of egg fried rice. I ate the lot . If you drink something with it (juice for me) it might fill you up even more.
Loving the cheese as well, esp on toast.
