Pregnancy scans - too many?

How many scans have you all had? I had 5 upto and including my 12 week scan with EPAU, and a cervix length scan at 16 weeks (briefly) saw baby for 1 minute. I’m 18weeks tomorrow and stressing something is wrong with baby, I’m thinking of booking a gender scan for this weekend. But I have a scan booked for 20weeks and the another cervix length scan at 21weeks. Worried about over scanning as I know they are ‘safe’ in Pregnant but read somewhere when scanning it can cause too much heat from the probe? Xx

I know that window to the womb recommend leaving 2 weeks between scans!

I had scans every two weeks from 12 weeks. I think if scans are medically recommended it is safer to have them than not. They work by bouncing waves off tissue etc like bats using sonar. Heat isn’t an issue.

I had loads of scans. My consultant even offered to scan me weekly due to my ‘horrific obstetric history’ as he put it. I settled for every two weeks and then every three once I could feel baby move.

I doubt he would have offered so many if he thought it would cause any issues and he would for sure have made me aware of any potential risk to the baby.

There is v little out there in terms of ultrasound scanning safety. The official terminology states there is no evidence to say theyre not safe but that could be because no one has bothered researching it in any meaningful manner. Having said that, i agree that scans can and do save lives but id err on the side of caution and try not to have them if you dont need to. So far ive had three: 12 week, 20 week and then another with the consultant. Ill be having a private scan at 22 weeks and then monthly on the nhs from 28 weeks as i am being consultant led. So seven in total and if my issues resolve, itll potentially be less than that.

What is worrying you about baby? Xx

I've had 5 so far and I'm 13 weeks. I'll have another soon with a consultant, gender scan at 16 weeks, 20 week scan and then growth scans every 4 weeks. I was worried about having so many in early pregnancy but it doesn't seem to have caused any harm.

I’m 11+4 and have had 3 so far. 7+4, 8+5,11+1 then another next Tuesday for 12 week scan

What @NatGee said, avoid having them unless they've been recommended by the medical team.
