ELCS Questions

Hi everyone ☺️

I've already had my consultant app but it felt quite rushed (on my part - waited 1.5hour and was conscious I needed to get back to work!!!).

I had an EMCS with my DD and so now have the choice of ELCS.

For those who had a EMCS first time around, how did you find the ELCS recovery? I was absolutely fine first time around but now I have a two year old!

Also, do you actually choose the day you'd like from 39 weeks & do you have to go at 39+0 or can you do 39+4, for example?

Thank you in advance xxx

I had an elcs booked in for my second (emcs first baby) and went into labour early. I opted to have another emcs rather than a vbac and I found the recovery a lot easier!

I told the consultant I didn't consent to an elcs before I was 40 weeks exactly and requested for it to be on my due date (a Thursday). Hospital called a few days after to say that they wanted to reschedule it for the day before which was a relative's birthday who is a narcissist and was very emotionally abusive to me as a child and I refused it then too! I went into labour at 38+3 anyway.

@prayforthecottransfer thank you for this.

I'm glad you weren't made to go for the day before your due date!

Were you early with you first?

@Willowfalls no, I wasn't. I went into labour at 40+1 and my dd was born at 40+2.

I did a post asking when second babies were born before my ds was born and people were resoundingly overdue with their second!

I had EMCS first time around then elective second time. I was given my c-section date as close to 39 weeks as possible (as I was 39 on a weekend and they only do weekdays) I probably could have changed the date if I wanted but it suited me fine. In terms of recovery it was a bit more painful when getting out of bed etc which they said was because of cutting through previous scar tissue but all manageable with good painkillers
