Incorrectly thawed salmon! Food poisoning??

Hello, can anyone at all out there please help?!! I just ate salmon that was previously frozen and I thawed at home on the worktop for about 4/5 hours. I had a panic and googled whether this is ok and I'm reading that it is extremely dangerous to thaw salmon at room temp even when not pregnant! I'm 14 weeks. Has anyone ever done this and been fine?? I'm really freaking out now. Thank you for any replies x

I always defrost salmon like that, and have never had food poisoning. I'm sure it's fine.

I'm 22 weeks and literally defrosted salmon Sunday afternoon, put in fridge when thawed and cooked and ate it last night (so 24 hours or so after defrosting) and I'm fine. I was conscious to just cook it for an extra 5-8 mins so almost overdone if anything. You will be fine.

I always defrost fish and meat on the counter, and never had food poisoning. Honestly you will be fine

Thank you so much for quick responses! That's helped me settle somewhat! I'm just stressing out about everything after having three consecutive miscarriages, I've managed to make it over the 12 week mark this time and really don't want to mess it up by something I've caused!!!! Thanks again x

Did you cook it? That would kill bacteria anyway
We always defrost food on the worktop

OP: it’s not as if the salmon sat around warm for those hours, it will have taken ages to reach room temp, if indeed it did.

And you presumably cooked it very thoroughly.

Congrats and good luck with your pregnancy OP.

Whilst cooking would kill the bacteria, if the bacteria have started to produce enough toxins you can still get food poisoning no matter how well you cook it.

OP: if you cooked it well enough to kill the bacteria, and you don't have a tingly tongue/itchy skin/swollen face/etc., you're probably ok.

Yes I oven cooked it according to the packet instructions. Thanks again everybody, much appreciated x

@DontMakeMeShushYou Thank you, yes this is what I read about the toxins! None of those symptoms so far! x
