As the title says, I'm 37+2w and for the past few days been having very orange urine. I'm definitely not dehydrated, nor have eaten/drank anything orange. I'm on iron tablets but have been for the last 8w so it's not them. This is baby no4 for me and I've never had this before so I'm bewildered. I've got a midwife appointment Thurs so will be bringing it up then but in the meantime I'm just wondering if anyone else has had this or knows what it could possibly be? Tia.

As you’re pretty certain it’s not dehydration, then you should call the doctor tomorrow. You could have a urinary infection that needs treatment.

BeCruelToBeKind · 26/06/2023 22:25

Are you taking any other vitamins?
Im taking some at the moment that are making mine almost fluorescent but have taken others in the past that have made it sort of orange

How is your skin? Orange urine can indicate cholostasis.

Unfortunately the earliest I can get in is Thurs with my midwife. I've got absolutely no chance of getting a gp appointment sooner. I don't think it's a uti. I've had them before and this urine doesn't resemble that of a uti at all and I have no other symptoms of a uti either.

I'm not taking anything at all. Just the iron prescribed by a midwife

My skin is fine. I'm aware of cholostasis normally causing itching of the hands/feet. I've had scalp itching which started pretty much the same time as the urine went orange. My first thought was headlice as I have 2dc in school but I was completely clear of them so it's not that.

You must contact your midwife. Dark urine can be a sign of liver problems. I haven't come across orange urine, but it could be vitamins or something else. At the very least you need to do a sample and take it to your midwife for testing.

Does the change in urine corelate with starting the iron? What brand is it?

rachelrainbow · 26/06/2023 22:40

Go to maternity assessment unit x

Thurs really is the only time I can see her/be in contact with her. She runs my the clinic that day otherwise I have no other contact details for her. Not vitamins because I'm not taking any.

Unfortunately not. I've been on it for the last 8 week, I'm on my last 3 days of it now. The orange urine started 5/6 days ago. I'm not sure of the brand sorry.

I'll call in the morning. There isn't anything I can do tonight as I'm at home alone with my 3dc and dh is in work

As the itching started the same time as the dark urine, you need to go to your EPAU tomorrow morning, once dh is home to sit with the children. It needs checking asap if it is cholostasis. And if they do tests and it isn't that, they can start looking for something else.

It's serious, so needs checking ASAP, so don't bother waiting for Midwife on Thursday or trying to book in with a GP. Present yourself at your Labour ward or Pregnancy Assessment Unit first thing once dh is home.

Just an update, I ended up going to maternity triage due to reduced movement as well. I had a full set of bloods done and urine tested - all came back absolutely fine. No one knows why my urine is the colour it is, consultant included, same for the itching. But only 11 more days til induction day, hopefully sooner as I had a sweep yesterday at 37+4, with another two booked in next week. Thanks everyone for your input.
