Varicose vein on VAGINA FML

I can only assume that's it. They were unsightly but painless black large dots. Now one has 'come out' & FML it's sensitive as fuck. Looks like a small black bubble hanging off my vag & honestly it's gross & I don't care about that but it's starting to catch/hurt/sting. I've 3 weeks left. Anyone has these & know a way to get them to stop hurting/not get any bigger?!

Scrap that it looks quite red. A small red bubble. Yuck.

I had vulval varicosities from about 24 weeks pregnant with my fourth. Bloody torture. The only things I found that helped were-

  1. Sitting on ice packs
  2. Pressure on the area- I made myself a "v-sling" from knee strapping from pound world... Basically looked like a jock strap. Couldn't afford spending £80+ on the actual v-sling.
  3. Making sure that I was keeping lower legs moving to keep blood flow going
  4. Staying off my feet which wasn't easy or possible lots of the time but they really kicked off pain wise whenever I was on my feet/ walking for hours.

They disappeared within hours of having baby four and didn't cause any issues in labour if it's any consolation.

Yes, I was absolutely horrified when I realised I had two of them with dd1. Went away after giving birth. Didn't have it with dd2.

varicosevag · 26/06/2023 20:12

@lookslikeabombhitit @Blarn Thanks both. Did either of yours pool blood and/or burst?! I read earlier there can be a link to DVT/deep vein thrombosis. Midwife said to speak to GP so will have to do that tomorrow. As I say it was just a black dot & is now a full on blood bubble, much like a blister. Sorry if TMI, certainly is for me anyway!

I got one with my 4th, thankfully it was never painful! Never said a word to anyone - obviously the midwife saw at delivery and sort of announced it. Anyway it went away really quickly. Not sure if there's a link to DVT because I was on blood thinners after delivery anyway due to it being my 4th.

@varicosevag mine were pretty extensive- I'm not exaggerating when I say by the last week of pregnancy (41 weeks) the right side of my vulva looked like I was storing a Richmond sausage in it. When it first started it was rounder and more like a grape- I thought it was a Bartholin's cyst and the emergency gynae dept tried to lance it (plot twist- it wasn't a cyst, they were very puzzled when only blood came out and that shit HURT- they didn't stitch it up either). When I finally realised it was a varicose vein but way earlier than in my previous pregnancies I spoke to a consultant about it as well as my GP. Neither were at all concerned about it causing a DVT- they said something about them not being sufficient enough to do that and weren't bothered about the idea of it bursting either. I had a home water birth for third and fourth and they caused no issues or complications in either birth- just bloody killed in the run up to it!

Ooh. I've just remembered. When the pain got mind numbingly bad I'd lash a bit of lanacane cream on it. It's got a local anaesthetic in it and whilst it didn't stop it hurting entirely it did give enough relief to get to sleep. Obvs I made that decision for me.

Well mine has started bleeding but not a lot, actually looks slightly smaller now. Very odd, didn't have this 1st time around...

I had one with second baby, so so painful BUT went as soon as I gave birth so hang in there!! It'll be gone soon ♥️♥️

Could have written this myself! I'm 35+4 and one appeared last week, smallish to begin and the last few days it's become massive, sore in the night and I'm having pelvic pain and pressure down there.

Not really sure what to do- any advice?

varicosevag · 27/06/2023 19:58

@Pink Pamplemousse I'm currently sat with a cold compress down my pants. Definition of sexy right here.

Mine has been bleeding but not a lot. I went to the Doctors today as I can feel it's beginning to sort of sting when it's brushed against. They had a look but said there's nothing they can do. Just keep it clean so I'm body showering 3 times a day if I'm able to. I'm wearing maternity pads also, just for comfort more than anything else!
