Period pains that aren't turning into labour?

For the last two days now I've had period pains on and off.

I'm 40+2 weeks but other then random period pains I have no symptoms of labour etc.

How comes we get strong period pains that don't physically turn into labour? Or can it turn into labour? Third baby here and I remeber f*%k all lol

For me my labour pains felt like I had painful diarrhoea. I think this is why people give birth on the toilet. I hadn't put two and two together until all I could do was sit on the toilet for my first as it was the only way to ease the pain. Period pains that I have experience each month were more like my uterus contracting after the birth and the big long bleed afterwards. I have had four children and all have been similar.

That's the warming up phase.

I've been having period like discomfort (not pain) low down for about a week now. Different sensation to Braxton Hicks (which is much higher up). But I find drinking more/ or shifting positions makes it calm down.

Vaguely remember this happening about 2 weeksish before my waters broke with No 1. But that was a HOT summer too. So could be not drinking enough?

I'm personally hoping this is not prep for labour as I am 32+3 weeks at the mo! Though with DS my waters broke at 36+4

I would say it is prelabour warm up
