Early scan at 8 weeks 6 days - no heartbeat

Hi all

I had an early scan yesterday and they couldn’t see a heartbeat on the screen. She could see the sac and baby and when she measured it, it was measured at 8 weeks and 6 days which is the same as the dates I gave her.

I’ve had a little bit of cramping throughout my pregnancy so far, but nothing that felt serious. I did have a little brown discharge at about 8 weeks and 1/2 days but no bleeding.

Does it sound as though I had a miscarriage on the day of my scan if the dates/measurements add up?

I called the EPU and have a scan at the hospital on Tuesday.

Just wanting some answers really!

is Your cycle regular? If you have a shorter cycle you would have conceived earlier, meaning you could have miscarried days ago?

was it a decent early scan place?? I’ve been to a few and one was particularly awful and untrustworthy…

I think it's best to wait for your scan.

As hard as it is I’d wait for epu, they’re more reliable.

I’m surprised the scan place didn’t contact your hospital/EPU and refer you there immediately. That’s what happened to me when I went for a private early scan as sadly I had a MMC with no heartbeat. Fingers crossed for you it’s not the same situation as it sounds promising the baby is measuring as they should be 🤞🏼 x

Thanks for your reply - yes my cycle is regular 🙂

As far as I know it was a decent scan place - it’s run by a former midwife 🤷🏼‍♀️

They said I needed to contact them and gave me the number, but I didn’t get the impression they were able to refer me? Thanks for your reply ❤️ I think I’m just clinging onto any hope - it’s probably not going to be good news on Tuesday, but I just wondered whether anyone else had had a similar experience. All the other comments I’ve found are where the baby was measuring smaller than it should have been x

@hoppy14 Ive been through the same, I was 8+4 and no heartbeat. I think sadly there is no hope, as you say only when the baby is measuring smaller than expected there is a positive outcome because your dates may be wrong. I think typically anything measuring over a certain size is a mmc as it should definitely have a heartbeat by then xx

@ChloeN thanks for your reply and sorry you’ve been through the same thing. I’ll see what they say on Tues then but guessing it will be what we’re all thinking ☹️ xx

@hoppy14 ill be thinking of you ❤️ it’s just awful and so cruel when you have no reason to expect things to not be okay xx

hoppy14 · 25/06/2023 21:19
