Progesterone Pessaries

Hi, I am 14w5d and have had some light bleeding. I was seen at the EPU yesterday and told my cervix had opened about 1cm. Had a scan and baby was fine and wriggling away. I have been subscribed progesterone pesssaries - 400mg twice a day. Has anyone else had this and their cervix has then closed. I don’t really know how it works or what to expect. Thank you

I was prescribed them for bleeding not for same thing I'm afraid but you might find using them rectally more comfortable as can cause itching and bleeding vaginally. If you have any concerns regarding anything speak to them as i know if people have a weak cervix you can get a stitch put in. Good luck!

@wannabemum38 thank you for replying, they did mention the stitch as well which I would’ve been all for but then the consultant said to try the pessaries but they didn’t explain what they do so I feel a bit in limbo.

@JenLouNic86 tbh I don't know the science behind it but I was prescribed it as I've suffered multiple losses and started spotting at 10 weeks so was put on a 6 week course. Whether it's worked I can't say touch wood I've not bled since and now been a week of no pessaries so maybe it has I think a lot of us will try anything to help keep the baby safe! I think they would rather you try pessaires first as obviously less invasive and the hormones in them could well do the trick I hope so x

@wannabemum38 no nor me I think it is something to do with thickening the lining so maybe it helps to do that. How long after you started using the pessaries did you stop bleeding? X

@JenLouNic86 I think a couple of days. My bleeding was quite light more spotting really when I wiped never had to wear a liner or anything but I had pain and was freaked out as I've lost 2 at 7 weeks and that started same way so went to a&e

@wannabemum38 mine has been more spotting than anything too and it’s only my second day using them and still spotting and now feel like I have some cramps but I have also read and as you said using them
vaginally can cause spotting and cramps so it’s a bit hard to tell.
