No signs after a sweep?

I know a sweep will only work if your body / baby is ready etc.

I had a sweep done today (I'm 40 weeks tomorrow) it wasn't too bad but I did experience cramps after for about 10 minutes.

Since then I have felt absolutely nothing 😂 is this a sign it's not working? It's been 7 hours and no pains or anything.

I was 1/5 effaced
1cm dilated
3cm cervix length
Midwife could feel babies head
And slight posterior cervix

I had a sweep at 39+1, baby was born at 39+4 after 3 hour labour.
I doubt it was the sweep that did it but you just don't know. And labour can just start out of the blue.
Hopefully you won't be waiting much longer 🙂

So I had a sweep on last Tuesday and had cramps for a couple of hours and it stopped. I had a mini show with blood etc but didn't go into labour until the Thursday.

Hope that helps :)

I had sweeps with all my children but labour had already started with all of them, it was to nudge things along, I had them all between 5 and 12 hours later. If you've had 0 signs before now I wouldn't be hopeful it'll do anything. Hope things kick off for you soon! X

I got my sweep and my waters didn't break until later that evening and they properly went the next day!

You might go in the night!

The first and second sweep I had didn't work but the third one did and set me off into really slow labour (over 30 hours)

Cece92 · 23/06/2023 20:30

I had a sweep on the Monday (this was almost 10 years ago) I was 41+ weeks and the midwife struggled she said I was no where near ready (not what you want to hear) and by Wednesday I was in labour contracting every 10 mins for a few hours then every 2 mins she still never came until the Friday after being dragged out by forceps she was definitely way too comfy. So please don't lose hope I genuinely didn't think it would work at all as she could barely get in there and booked my induction for the Thursday 😂

I had 2 sweeps and nothing. My friend had 1 sweep and gave birth later that day!

Best of luck 🤞

Forgot to add I was eventually induced at 42 weeks

RandomMess · 23/06/2023 20:44

If that's DC1 that's great. 42 weeks with DC4, had first indication pessary 7 hours earlier and I still only had a Bishops Score of 1 🙄

CC2839 · 23/06/2023 20:49

I had a sweep at 40 weeks then 40+3, I was told i was 1cm dilated at the first sweep and then at the second i was told it could not be done as it was still closed. I needed to be induced and my baby came at 41+4. I did have cramping and had what looked like a mucus plug after my second but did not work for me

pinkunicorns54 · 23/06/2023 21:17

I had a sweep at 40 weeks, it was in the morning not sure what time, my waters went at 3am!

Leapintothelightning · 24/06/2023 00:53

I was booked for an induction so had a sweep on a Thursday (39+2) and was 2cm. I went in on the Sunday afternoon and was STILL 2cm - so from my experience I wouldn't rely on the sweep to get things moving quickly! DD was born early hours of the Monday at 39+6 after I got my waters broken around 8pm on the Sunday.

annlee3817 · 24/06/2023 05:25

With DD1 I had a sweep at 40 weeks, was 2-3cm dilated and she could stretch to 4cm. Waters bulging, could feel the head, cervix 1cm long posterior, other than a bloody show all was quiet, went into labour at 40+5 :) she really wasn't coming until she was ready lol

Gloopyhoop · 24/06/2023 12:26

With my 2nd I had a sweep around 1pm and in the evening about midnight things started to happen. But they did say when you're more relaxed something's likely to start.
Hopefully it did work and you're on your way now though!
