Hi all,

today had regular checkup, baby is healthy, 2.1 kg, but doctor told me that my AFI is low (10), and he put me on 1 week monitoring from now on, also told me to drink a lot of water.

I am scared as hell, read a lot of bad things, did anyone had similar issue?

I'm 34w and just went to the ER for a very minimal fluid leak. I was concerned it could be amniotic fluid but all the tests were negative. They did fetal monitoring and an ultrasound, said it all looks good, and sent me home. Now reading the ultrasound report, they noted AFI 9.25 but nobody mentioned that while I was there. Not sure what that means either. Hope you and your baby are doing well!

I finally gave my doctor a call about my AFI and they scheduled me for follow up US next week. May I ask for an update on your case? Would be really helpful to know what I'm facing...

First of all, try not to panic as AFI measurements are usually not very accurate. My AFI was 9.5cm at 30w which was just above 5 percentile. The sonographer sent me to the doctor to have a review but the doctor didn't sound too concerned. Apparently anything above 8cm was still considered as normal (otherwise they'll do a blood test). They took a swab to check if there was any amniotic fluid leak just to be safe.

Just monitor your baby's movements very closely. If any concerns go in for baby heart rate monitoring. Good luck!
