Proof of pregnancy?

Hi all,

I'm supposed to be going to a festival at the end of August (I'll be about 21 weeks by then) - I'm in the midst of requesting a refund for the tickets as my friend no longer wants to go, but they're asking for proof of pregnancy? What can I provide as this please?

Your 12 week scan?

I've not had one yet, I have it in a couple of weeks though! I do have an early scan photo I could use, but my name is cut off at the top so unsure if they'd accept it. Just a bizarre thing to request from someone I think haha

Are you using your pregnancy as a reason for the refund?
Normally you would use your matb1 as proof but you won't get that until you're at least 20 weeks pregnant.

Yeah I am ☺️ don't really feel comfortable hauling lots of heavy things and camping all weekend in the heat ha!

Is that something I could get early maybe? This is my first pregnancy so unsure of what to expect. Thank you ❤️

Do you have your NHS pregnancy prescription and dental card? They might take that?

Maternity exemption certificate? (Have you applied for it yet?)
No you can't get the matb1 before 20 weeks

Did your midwife give you maternity exemption certificate? I got mine on 1st appointment.

It's good they'll allow it at all - most festivals are no refunds regardless of reason.
I'd just send them the scan after 12 weeks, or a letter confirming the scan.

Did you receive a letter to let you know of your 12w scan appointment? I would have thought that's official enough to use without having to wait for the scan, as it has yours and the trusts details on.

Alternatively, ask them what they will accept as proof of pregnancy. I bet they have no idea what they're actually asking for as I doubt this comes up a lot. So the letter should be fine. Or a scan of your booking notes with your name on?

Yeah I have given them the 12 week letter as proof for now - it has my address on so hoping that works!

Thank you all - there's so many things I could use lol! Didn't know about the certificate or paying for a doctors note so I'll try those if all else fails

The maternity exemption certicate entitles you to free prescriptions and free nhs dental treatment so make sure your midwife sorts it out for you

I would ask your midwife or GP to write you a quick note on headed paper. If they are nice they might do it then and there for you and not charge you for having it typed up etc. (GP has sometimes done that for me, otherwise it's £15 and takes ages.) If the refund is quite large, it'd even be worth it to pay a private GP to do it ASAP for you. Or any other NHS letter for example confirming your booking in appt or scan appt (past or future) should do.

This is such a shame. Chances are it will be your last chance to do something like this for a good few years. And the second tri is generally when you are feeling best.

I'm 20 weeks pregnant now and I'd love to go to a festival! I think during your first early pregnancy you imagine 20 weeks as being quite heavily pregnant but then when you get there you barely feel pregnant at all.

My sister went to Glastonbury with me when she was about 6 months pregnant! We put up tents etc. She just had a few extra trips to the loo in the night!
Thankfully it wasn't a wet year. TBH at a festival it's not like full on camping with all the accessories. You travel pretty light.

Ooh that's good to know that she still managed it 😂 I'm not a light traveller when it comes to camping lol! My friend also doesn't want to go either though ☹️
