I can't breathe! have the heaviest cold ever-any tips to decongest???

ok i've tried the hot water and eucalptus thing... vicks rubbed on my face, tiger balm under my nose / blowing nose til it hurts- nothing is coming out-think my sinus's have sealed up and i'm suffocating!!!

am itching to squirt sudofed decongestant up my nose but the sensible part of me says no- think of baby...anyone got any tips?? arghhhh

This the third thread about 'not being about to breathe colds' in the last week I have noticed. I just recovered from one of those, which was hell for 2 weeks.
I think there must be something a bit nasty going around.

sounds horrid but it does work!

you make some saline solution - cup warm (body temp) water 1/3 tsp salt 1/3 tsp bicarb and then snort it through your nose (if you can ) either in through mouth and out through nose or in through nose. because it is saline it doesnt burn - really and does help to open and cleanse sinuses

Sterimar (salt water spray) is quite good as well. Its basically the same as Michtenstein's saline solution but possibly easier to use. You can buy it over the counter in Boots; I don't think it's too expensive, but I can't remember the exact cost.

Here's a nice solution that I've found really useful. Buy a lemon and some honey. Boil up a mug of hot water and add a slice of the lemon and a teaspoon of honey. I did this instead of taking cold remedies before I was pregnant and it worked! Also it tastes lovely and makes you feel soothed - that's probably a big part of the reason why it works.

Please try it - it really worked for me.

Thanks everyone for tips- just tried the lemon and honey one- yummy -fingers crossed that it will start liquidising soon ( i know- too much info!).

michtenstein- just tried to snort the solution but seem to have no sucking power!! scared to try again in case I drown myself trying lol. My sinus's seem to have blocked solid arghhhh.

Dreamt I had my face painted as a zebra last night and woke up with my tongue like leather from breathing through my mouth all night! (amused me so thought i'd share with the class lol).

Going to try and find the saline spray tomorrow- thanks everyone for the tips/sympathy- has been 4 days of heavy breathing so far!!!
