Baby kicks and how they feel

Hello, I am 21 weeks pregnant and was wondering if what I’m feeling is the baby moving and if anyone felt/feels the same?

Looking back I think I had some ‘whooshing’ feelings over the last few weeks. Then yesterday and today I have had this feeling in my lower stomach/pelvis area where it feels like there’s a ball in my stomach (as though I’m stuffed) and almost like I’ve got trapped wind before farting (but not farting) as well as it feeling all tender. It’s uncomfortable but not painful. The feeling has been intermittent throughout the day and probably lasted for the last hour - which has just made me feel pretty tired.

When I’ve had scans they’ve said the baby is very active - they found it hard at the 20 week scan as it kept moving a lot - so I’m wondering if this is it?

TIA.

I would say youre feeling baby moving around. Next will prob feel like flutters and then more pushing and turning. Wait till you feel a full movement like a roll or foot/elbow nudge. Its a wonderfully weird feeling

I didn't feel anything until c.22 weeks and then it felt like a popping. Now at 26 weeks depending on the position of baby the feeling is still like popping (if in centre) or it feels more like proper kicks (to sides).
It's kicked backwards a few times and that feels more like butterflies that people describe.
I have anterior placenta which makes sense why I can't feel as much to the front.

Thank you both for your reply @2under3inkent and @pinkpirlie

When you started feeling movement did you feel it every day? Since thinking I felt something I’ve not had as strong movements, and wondering if I should feel it each day now. It’s making me wonder if I felt it correctly / a bit worried. It’s a minefield!

I started feeling very light tapping around 16 weeks. Which would come and go and vary in how much I could feel it. When I say it came and went I would go days without feeling things initially, and then was lucky to feel one small episode of tapping per day.

From 19 weeks I started to feel more kick like actions, which could be felt with a hand on tummy. I'm now 22 weeks and feel lots everyday, including kicks, thumps downwards, turns and flips etc.

A lot depends on where your placenta is to how much you feel. I have posterior high hence why I've felt so much, so early on. Even at 21 weeks where you are baby is moving so much but you will only feel the small minority of those movements, if anything. At my 20 week scan baby boy was moving pretty much the whole time, the scan lasted at least 20 minutes and despite all his moving I only felt a total of three kicks.

The uncomfortable feeling might have been trapped wind - I had a lot of it in pregnancy and it was really painful.

Baby kicks aren’t painful (until they’re much bigger and wedging their feet into your ribs).

It’s more like a little tapping/pushing from inside I guess.. hard to describe.

Is your placenta at the front (anterior)? That makes it harder to feel kicks. It might say in your scan report.

@Ttc0 gosh no. I would feel movements for a day or two, then nothing for days, then some more movement. It hasn't really been until post 25 weeks that I have felt movement daily. But even then some days movements are fewer than other days.

It really does depend on the position of the baby. You start to notice over time where you do and don't feel movement, and where you feel it more strongly. As the movements get stronger, you start to feel it more regularly in the places where you didn't feel before, but much lighter. So it then explains why you didn't feel anything there a week or so before.

I should add I had a scan at 23 weeks (redo of 20 weeks scan) and baby was moving around a lot. And I could feel absolutely nothing.
