Dh told his grandmother yesterday and her first reaction on hearing about my pregnancy was 'oh no'. Grumpy old cow obviously assumed it was an accident. Grrr.

My grandparents on the other hand - were delighted. Why are some people so RUDE!

I always think this is so odd" Why on earth would she say that? How is it not good news?

Don't let it spoil the news and the excitement for you! Her loss.

bitofadramaqueen · 22/02/2008 13:12

Oh that's horrible petitfilou. Dont let it get you down though. What did your DH say?

coastalmum · 22/02/2008 13:14

I dreaded telling family I was pg with #4(unplanned). Each negative comment left me deeply wounded. But they all came round quickly, and have showered my little one with love since he arrived. I still haven't deep down forgiven them for their initial comments.

PetitFilou1 · 22/02/2008 13:14

She only had two. Her daughter only had two, her other daughter adopted - two. Therefore any more children than that is obviously just outrageous fgs, thinking about it still makes my blood boil!

Dramaqueen He just said 'yes she is' and said he was pleased. I would have had a few more words to say than that, I can tell you! I have only had one 'was it planned' (work colleague) and everyone else has been lovely. So it is just her (and her husband) who are miserable old gits.

3 runs in my family.

My 2 sisters & brother all have 3.

I was happy as myself & another sister have 2, we were in our own little club.

My sis text me yesterday to say she is pg!! So I am crossing my legs

Congratulations!!

sweetkitty · 22/02/2008 13:20

Oh I had a lot of this when I announced I was pregnant with DB3

"are you happy about it?" my Dad
"was it planned?" just about everyone
"are you mad"
as well as the usual "are you trying for a boy then?"

Sadly I lost the baby and even then some people were like "nevermind you already have 2"
"3 would have been expensive"
"are you going to trying again or just leave it?"

such personal questions as it happens we have been very lucky and I'm now 20 weeks pregnant again.

congratulations and enjoy your pregnancy and new baby sod everyone else

bitofadramaqueen · 22/02/2008 13:22

I suppose there's little point arguing with grumpy old grannies...

I'm sure that everyone else in both you and DH's family will be delighted so I would just try and forget/ignore grumpy granny.

dizzydixies · 22/02/2008 13:41

petitfilou am off round to sort her out, address please.................

Fennel · 22/02/2008 14:27

Almost everyone assumed our dc3 was an accident, especially everyone at work where they can understand wanting a child or possibly two but never three.

I got "Oh I'm so sorry" from one colleague.

foxythesnowman · 22/02/2008 14:31

Yep, people just don't mind their manners. My own family thought we were mad.

I remember one 'acquaintance' being openly horrified at my PG with DC4. So much so she pointed it out to her friend (who I had never met before). "This is her fourth!!". And her friend was equally horrified.

I retort, "Well its not for everyone. Some people just aren't cut out for it" implying a snidey question mark over their own parenting choices. tee hee.

dizzydixies · 22/02/2008 16:26

sweetkitty now you come to mention it if one more person asks me if we're trying for a boy this time I may explode! I love my girls and would love another one, may be too shocked and confused by any additional parts that arrive but I will be delighted whatever it is!

foxythesnowman I have a secret hankering for 4 but seeing as I never seen to do this simply I'll wait and see how this one pans out!

MrsTittleMouse · 22/02/2008 16:37

I had a couple of people look very concerned for my first! Mind you, I've never been your typical maternal type, so I suppose that it's actually quite sweet that they were worried that I didn't really want the baby.
We did, by the way.

minouminou · 24/02/2008 01:01

"she's bleedin' thick, her"
brother's reaction to sister's announcement of #4.
well, at least he waited till she'd left the room, i guess

chipmonkey · 24/02/2008 01:56

Foxy, I like that!!! Have been trying to think up a response to the shocked faces when I tell people it's my 4th baby!
