When did everyone get their first midwife appointment booked? I've just phoned and been given my first appointment at ten weeks. I expected it to be around 8 weeks... First pregnancy after miscarriage and feeling extremely anxious

I didn't have my first one until about 10 weeks and then had the first scan 2ish weeks after that with both of mine

Piglet34 · 19/06/2023 13:42

I have my first one today at 9.5 weeks :)

Congrats and all the best. Pregnancy after mc is worrying.

It's nine weeks at my trust, often ten, so yours sounds the same.

And please don't be anxious. A booking in appointment is really all admin, the first milestone is the scan.

I was given a date which would have put me around 8 weeks, but I couldn't make that date, my new one is at 10+3 I think. I'm not too worried - they can't do anything at that appointment that will make a pregnancy successful or not, it's basically admin. Try not to be too nervous, I know it's hard. I'm pregnant after loss too.

My first one was 12 weeks. 10 weeks sounds spot on! You'll have one at 10 weeks, your 12 week scan, one at 16 weeks and then your 20 week scan and then they'll become more regular at 26 weeks. You're only there for all of 5 minutes or so. Booking appointment is usually longer.

ChloeN · 19/06/2023 15:31

Mine was 10 weeks too☺️

I know this is very hospital specific, but can you self-refer to EPU for a reassurance scan? My local hospital is notoriously bad, but after a miscarriage I was told that I would be able to self-refer, and was basically allowed to have as many scans as I wanted to reassure me.

Mine is next Tuesday when I'll be 8 weeks. I'm in the same boat as you in that its my 1st pregnancy after a miscarriage in January. Last time, my booking in appointment was the same day I went into hospital to have my scan to confirm I'd lost it 😥so I'm anxious to make this one!

tinyshoppingbasket · 19/06/2023 15:58

Booking app is always at 10 weeks in my trust, with dating scan at 12 weeks.

user1499609760 · 19/06/2023 16:53

I am waiting for mine. I’ll be 8 weeks tomorrow and no sign of an appointment yet. My only concern is that I’m going to be on holiday for all or part of weeks 10, 11 and 12, so that rather restricts things. I’d really like it before we go away.

For those of you who have had yours or have a date, how much notice did you get?

I tried ringing the number given for the community midwife team today and it doesn’t even ring… Confused

elliejjtiny · 19/06/2023 16:55

10-12 weeks with all of mine

Fairylight102 · 19/06/2023 17:09

I second the suggestion to find out if you are entitled to additional reassurance scanning from
your EPU. I am currently 17 weeks pregnant following a miscarriage, and was able to get a reassurance scan at 7 weeks before my booking appointment at 10 weeks.

PickledScrump · 19/06/2023 17:48

Usually between 8-12 weeks, scans can be done up to 14 weeks. My first 2 I had them at 8 weeks but this time was 10 weeks. All completely within normal time frames.
