Hello, I’m new to this!

Recently found out I'm pregnant 5w5d, best news of 2023. However I have many many weddings etc upon me and finding it hard to not look suspicious 😆. Anyway, I’ve discovered a AF Kylie Minogue Sparkling Rose, but is has green tea infusion (only 0.5%) and wasn’t sure if this was safe? Very new to this. If a no no, any other suggestions? Thank you!!

Congratulations on becoming pregnant! With the Kylie sparkling wine, do you mean it is 0.5% alcohol or 0.5% of it is made of green tea? Either way it sounds pretty safe to drink.

Lots of women choose to drink absolutely zero alcohol during pregnancy, others are ok with a glass of wine every once in a while. Some low alcohol/zero alcohol drinks are in reality 0.5%abv and that's completely your choice if you feel comfortable drinking it or not! One glass of 0.5%abv drink is very unlikely to do any harm to the baby.

I've gone for zero alcohol and most of the time just drink sparkling water but it really isn't the same when you're at a social event or wedding 😂if you're worried about looking suspicious, can you carry around a glass of wine and pretend to sip it every now and then?

I’ve looked into this and found that 0.5% is the same as orange juice, but I’m too much of a worrier (as I wouldn’t have a pint of orange juice but would have a pint of beer!)

However, lots of the alcohol free options are 0.05% and I’m ok with that.

@sommeliermama Thank you!! 0.5% green tea which is an odd one! I thought I’d finally found one without the 0.5% ABV and then noticed the green tea 😂 I’ve done so well at not drinking caffeine as well lol!

Haha it really isn’t, tried the sparkling water myself! Or Soda water and lime 😆 just not the same! Good shout, could get my partner to take sips every now and then!

@Mushroo in the same boat, I’m so worried on anything I eat and drink now! But I can’t handle the questions at events as I’m the worst liar 🤣

Now I know it’s the same as orange juice! Makes me feel a little bit better haha

Kindly, I think you’re more aware of this than anyone else will be. Just carry a glass around with you and discreetly swap with your partner every now and then. I did this at loads of weddings and was never rumbled.

I ordered lemonades in a gin glass when I was pregnant, some bar staff were a little confused but nobody ever refused, and it meant I didn’t have to secretly dump wine anywhere!

Nobody ever clocked!

But if you pretend to be drinking, when the bump is obvious, people will be thinking, "So she was 2 months pregnant in June at Sally's wedding, so she probably knew, but she was drinking gin/wine all night."

In Tesco they have a range of wine called Natureo - the rose is particularly nice! I like Brooklyn brewery special effects beer too.

I would just drive and then openly stick to soft drinks if that's an option. People are generally pretty accepting that you don't drink and drive.

I have a sip of wine/ prosecco during the toasts but that's it
