People staring at me when pregnant but in a negative way!

Hi all!

I wanted to see if any other pregnant ladies have experienced anything similar.

I am now 7 months pregnant and have a visible bump. I'm a short lady with a large chest.

I am always getting stared at by mainly middle aged women who don't look and me and smile but instead screw their face up or look at me in a disapproving way almost. It's so odd as it's not as if I wear revealing clothes or anything! I don't get it. I find people haven't been overly nice to me either since being pregnant! It makes me feel quite self conscious! Anyone else experienced this?

No I've noticed the opposite this pregnancy. Do you stay in a city or small town?

Mummy2B1983 · 16/06/2023 00:36

@airmaxJ hiya! I live in a small town but have experienced this in different places I have been too! It's bizarre! Maybe people don't know if I'm pregnant and maybe think I just have a huge stomach?!

Do you have lots of other children?

airmaxJ · 16/06/2023 00:43

Yes maybe that's what it is because of the large chest , my bump really pops out and is obvious as a bump and not really got a big chest so I think it's getting a nice reaction of people who pass . You sound lovely btw and I'd smile 😊 at your bump if I saw you

I had this when I was pregnant, along with people making comments. I’m 5 foot and baby faced. So when heavily pregnant at 22, people assumed I was a teenager. DD is 11 now and I’m still not assumed to be the mother. People look for an adultier adult to speak to. All these years later, I've come to the conclusion that people are often just judgemental twats and I go about my day Grin

Moni81 · 16/06/2023 06:06

Don't worry about middle aged women, I'm 42 myself....I don't think it's about your looks for sure, women of my age can have issues believe me lol. I am 7 months pregnant too and look like I swallowed ball or something 🤣 and sometimes get funny looks when walking with my teenage daughters ....people judge, so what, just ignore them.

NorthWestThree · 16/06/2023 06:10

Do you look very young? I looked so young during my first pregnancy and I'm sure people were judgy! I was always treated better at hospital etc when DH was with me!

Mummy2B1983 · 16/06/2023 08:17

I had this - I had a big baby and big bump and people honestly used to look at me in horror. I never really understood it. I’m not gonna pop in the high st and if I did I’m not asking you to deliver it ffs!!

Janedoelondon · 16/06/2023 08:21

I had this with my first pregnancy!

I was 2 weeks away from my due date and went shopping for a few things to treat myself. I came away in tears as I had so many judgey looks from people while I was out. I was slim with a big bump and wondered if I was being judged for being out and about when I was fit to burst, especially in the heat?! I couldn't work it out.

Anaemiafog · 16/06/2023 08:25

The only reason would be (not that it's justified) I think is looking young. I never looked pregnant with my 3DC but went back to uni aged 27 when DC1 was 3. I received a few looks but didn't think much about it until one woman asked how old I was when I had him. She didn't realise I was a mature student and assumed I was 15 when he was born. I did look very young but was married with a mortgage when he was born.
DC2 was born ten years after 1and it never happened when I was in my thirties with a young child.

Mummy2B1983 · 16/06/2023 11:10

@Justchooseone Sorry you experienced this too. People are such twats. Why would they make us feel like that. Judgey arseholes. X

@NorthWestThree No I wouldn't say I do I'm 40 but wouldn't say I necessarily look 40 maybe mid 30s. People shouldn't judge though. Pregnant women have so many hormones and to make someone feel rubbish and self conscious is terrible. It is such a wonderful gift people should embrace not look in disgust! Xx

@Janedoelondon Sorry you experienced this. How awful for people to make you feel like that. I just don't understand peoples negativity and judgement. They need to bloody mind their own business! Pregnant women have many hormones racing around & to also have to put with judgemental idiots is so uncalled for! X

People generally look grumpy when deep in thought. And then eyes get drawn to the bump. That’s probably all it is. Congratulations on the pregnancy x

Mummy2B1983 · 16/06/2023 11:21

@Anaemiafog yes true, I don't look young as I'm 40 but prob would say look mid thirties. :) Still though no reason for people to judge. Pregnancy is a wonderful gift and for people to judge and be negative is so awful! Pregnancy is hard enough without judgey idiots! Xx

Perplexing. I would have assumedeither because you had lots of kids or looked really young... but neither applies!

I'm a bit nervous about facing some judgement this time when my bump starts showing - expecting DC4 but haven't announced it yet (I'm 19 weeks) except to close family, partly because I think some people are bound to pull faces.
