Requesting induction due to reduced growth

Has anybody requested to be induced due to reduced growth? They’ve mentioned it may happen anyway but will see in 2 weeks time but I’m just so anxious and keep thinking the worse and think baby will be better out now that’ll they’re at ‘term’. I know scans aren’t accurate too but I feel history is repeating itself and my body just isn’t capable of growing a baby to their due date.

The NICE guidelines aren’t overly clear on what is recommended.

It depends how far along you are. They like to keep baby in until at least 38 weeks if possible as they are still doing important things like lung function, so may not do an induction early if it’s just your choice. If after 38 weeks and they have concerns about reduced growth it’s worth talking to them about it

Thank you. I’m almost 38 weeks but the next check is closer to 40 which I don’t want to wait for / delay just in case.

A little different to you OP. Being induced at 39 weeks due to lower weight for gestational age. I didn’t request it though. My OB recommended it. Definitely ask if this is affecting your mental health. I must say that time is dragging for me as I just want them here safely now. Good luck!

Hello!

I was induced due to reduced growth; i had regular scans because of GD and babies growth dropped in my last three scans.
It was my first pregnancy and i was terrified of losing her.

My consultant was all for inducing me early as she was worried about growth but wanted to get me to after 37 weeks which i wanted too.
I was checked at my final scan and found to be dilated and booked there and then for my induction the following week- unfortunately i had reduced movements the following day and requested to be induced sooner than the following week (reduced movements were becoming more frequent), the consultant agreed and the following day i was induced at 38+2, baby was born 10 hours after induction started.

Baby was born healthy but very small at 5 pounds, the scans hadn’t picked up just how small she was and she was estimated to be around 7-9lbs, i saw my consultant on the ward the day after delivery and she said that the best decision had been made to induce straight away.

Id have a chat with your consultant/doctor/midwife; i found they were fantastic with my concerns and i didn’t ask to be induced too early.
