Where to find a birthing nighty?

I’m 34 weeks now and looking for something to wear during Labour and birth. When I had my other children I could find simple nighties in cheap places like supermarkets and primark no problem, but this time around there’s nothing. I don’t want to spend too much as it’ll be going in the bin after, but preferably with buttons for breastfeeding. Has anyone found a shop that still stock these?

I had a nightie from mammas and pappas - It didn't have buttons but had fastners that unhooked like a nursing bra. It worked pretty well for me.

I also had an old shirt of DHs for one labour - that was ok too.

A big man’s shirt, cheapo one given it’s binned after. I just used suitable old nighties at the end of life that I was going to chuck anyway. Had scissors in labour bag and was just going to ask DH to cut straight down front afterwards but I ended up with hospital gowns for all of mine due to epidurals after induction via drip with each one (waters broke, then nothing, then nothing, more of nothing, each time……).

Thank you both, a man’s shirt is a great idea

Have look at vinted I got most of my pregnancy clothes there including nighties and loungwear.

I just wore a light, baggy, long top during labour. After my daughter was born I just whipped it off along with my bra and put her to the boob.

Have you looked at just getting an oversized men's t-shirt or shirt?

Okshacky · 14/06/2023 16:50

A really long Tshirt and another to change into

gogohmm · 14/06/2023 16:57

I just wore a hospital gown - why spend your own money!

ChloeN · 14/06/2023 16:59

TU have some button up night shirts they're about £15 each, I've bought some for my
Hospital bag

Primark have just brought out some maternity nighties, they also have loads of oversize T-shirts or just get a normal nightie in a few sizes up. I had a water birth last time and hoping for another so will be taking it off once baby is born anyway.

newwings · 14/06/2023 22:00

I got a pure cotton button down one from Matalan.

SallySunrise · 14/06/2023 22:11

I wore a sports vest from primark a couple of sizes up each time. Long enough to cover most of my arse when moving around the room. Changed into a nightshirt and massive pants after the post labour shower.

If you're planning on breastfeeding i should found the primark loungewear vests with build in support good for night feeds. They hold breast pads in place and pull down easily to feed.

Why on earth do people feel a need to bin a nighty after giving birth in it? Can't they wash it?

HateMyselfToo · 14/06/2023 22:56

I got a knee length cotton jersey one from John Lewis with buttons down to the waist. Lived in it that Summer and still have it now - My DD is 13 this month!

Ended up getting to the hospital too late for pain relief and giving birth buck-naked in a birthing pool though!

IHateLegDay · 14/06/2023 22:57

I got a nighty from primark. It was super comfy

CalamityCara · 14/06/2023 22:59

BooHoo and Amazon have maternity nightshirts for under £10.

redbigbananafeet · 14/06/2023 23:01

I bought a pastel stripped, to just above the knee, nightshirt in Maternity in Tesco about 3 weeks ago for after labour. It was fab.

HappiDaze · 14/06/2023 23:02

Primark had loads of cotton T shirt dresses in the other day which might be suitable

HappiDaze · 14/06/2023 23:03

I have absolutely no idea what I wore either times I gave birth. I tend to sleep naked so hid knows what I turned up in Blush

minipie · 14/06/2023 23:05

I just had a massive stretchy sleeping T shirt from Primark. Bought 2/3 sizes too big. The neck was loose enough to pull down to expose a boob. Much comfier and quicker than anything button up
