Maternity maxi dress

I have a wedding to go to in a few weeks and wanted a maternity maxi dress, preferably in a floaty chiffon type fabric as I don’t like tight fitting. The dress code is casual so I don’t want anything too fancy, but really struggling to find anything suitable anywhere. I’ve tried next, very, h&m, matalan, George, Dorothy Perkins, Debenhams & Shein. Am I missing anywhere? Maternity stuff is really hard to get now, everything is just so ugly and very basic looking. I just want to feel slightly less like a massive whale for one day 😩

@PickledScrump have you looked on asos? They’ve got loads of nice dresses!

PickledScrump · 13/06/2023 22:18

@ChloeN yes tried them too and boohoo

Does it need to be maternity? Lots of that style of dress have loads of bump room, lots of websites label things as bump friendly. Can you size up in a standard dress?

Katrinawaves · 13/06/2023 22:26

Have a look on eBay or Vinted for Isabella Oliver or Seraphine maxi dresses. Not sure what size you need but there are lots of lovely ones in different sizes on eBay at the moment. They hold their value well so you are likely to be able to resell afterwards

Have a look on Vinted! Found loads of nice maternity bits on there.

I'm 37 weeks and have managed to get away with sizing up a size or two for loose maxi dresses during this heatwave so you might not need it to be maternity

Kerrielouise84 · 13/06/2023 22:35

I bought nearly all my maternity clothes from new look, I got some lovely maxi dresses from there last summer 😊

There is a brand sold on ASOS called Hope and Ivy. They have some really beautiful maternity dresses perfect for a wedding.

I wore one for my baby shower, very comfortable and had a lot of compliments on it!

PickledScrump · 13/06/2023 22:49

Thanks everyone. I have tried most of the suggestions apart from just sizing up so might just have to try that. All the ones I’ve looked at are really floral, thigh splits, frills, ruffles etc and that’s just really not me. I’m usually a jeans, black top and boots person, dresses that suit me are a nightmare to find when I’m not pregnant

@PickledScrump what size are you? I currently have a beautiful one up on Vinted..

bravotango · 13/06/2023 22:59

I also have something I'm about to list on vinted, it's a pleated maxi dress in a sort of turquoise colour - I wore it to a wedding while very pregnant! Got it from Oliver Bonas which might be worth a look

PickledScrump · 13/06/2023 23:18

@popopop im a size 14

I second Vinted too. I had a wedding to attend a month ago at 32w and couldn't find nothing in the shops / online. Ended up buying a brand new dress with tags for £8 on Vinted. An absolute steal when I'm not likely to wear it again due to the sizing.

Depending on your budget Seraphine have a sale at the moment and have lots of option that aren’t too floral or frilly (most can also be used for breastfeeding afterwards so you might be able to get a bit more wear out of them too).
Maybe something like this: https://www.seraphine.com/en-gb/turquoise-blue-jersey-maternity-to-nursing-maxi-dress/

Turquoise Blue Jersey Maternity to Nursing Maxi Dress

Elegant and versatile, this easy to wear full length maxi dress can be dressed up or down for any occasion.

@Katrinawaves & @Monkeymonkeymoo thank you but they’re both a bit too girly looking for me. I’m more alternative style I guess. Makes shopping for dresses difficult at the best of times.

Loads of chiffon dresses will work even when not maternity, they are very roomy so don't limit yourself to the maternity section.

AnotherStory23 · 14/06/2023 09:11

I'm going to a wedding in a couple of weeks when I'll be 33 weeks pregnant and planning on renting something. If you search 'rent maternity clothes' there's loads out there!

FTM2022SS · 14/06/2023 09:18

I have this one in my wardrobe in a size 14 - let me know if you would be interested!

Hey @PickledScrump, I am the same - I ordered this from H&M and it is really flattering: https://www2.hm.com/en_gb/productpage.1188387001.html
I'm wearing with some OTT earrings and nice sandals to dress it up a little!

bravotango · 15/06/2023 20:14

This is the Oliver Bonas dress I'm going to list - let me know if you'd like first dibs!

I had an hour to kill waiting for a train the other weekend and ventured into COS and came out a poorer woman. They have lots of loose fitting dresses that aren’t maternity but you could fit into well into your pregnancy. Depending on how you style them they could be dress up or down. I’ve been wearing the green racerback midi dress with trainers. It even has pockets 😅

Blueskiesforecast · 15/06/2023 20:58

Try etsy? If you can get it on time. Lots of loose dresses. There are some non-maternity 70s styles (in fashion now) that would work with a bump!
